Alright guy's, start scratching your brain! I went up to Sturgis the week Post Rally for 10 days. Brought the Big Dog & the Ultra Classic. Roads were vertually empty! We had the plase to ourselves except for a few other bikes and 1 or 2 cars! Matter of fact the bike infront of me is my riding partner. On roads like 385 out of Lead the Big Dog had NO problem pulling and excelorating up the 7* & 10* hills. The 1997 Ultra with the EVO was holding speed but at full throttle on the 7* and once or twice had to down shift. But on the 10* had to down shift alot. When I rebuilt the engine 2 yrs ago, I went back with stock except ajustable push rods, Arlen Ness ignition system, Andrews 27 cam & 2 into 1 Thunder Header. I'm thinking Port & Polish head job, 10/1 compression pistons and reconfigure new cam. What do ya'll think?

As for the harley not having the power of the dog, I think you are just going to have accept this fact. My buddy who just bought a 110 CVO harley with stage 3 package says his stock big dog still blows the amped up harley of the road. I say save you money on the harley engine work, but thats just me.

I understand the Harley will never be the power monster the S&S in the Big Dog is. That's not what I an saying. What's the best way to pull 10-15 more HP out of the Harley to help is my question. I could always ship the motor to Kendel Johnson and have it converted to a 145. But that's a little extreme. 10-15 hp would make me HAPPY

103 kit set of screamin eagle heads and 585 cam. Also open up the breather.
If you do the work your self about a grand on parts. Don't. Forget power commander/ race tuner
You're bumping 1500.

I think it's a carbureted Evo so no 103" or pc in his future.

I wouldn't piece it together first figure out your budget. I'd up compression, port and polish for sure and look at larger jugs. If you want to hit the bottom end you can get jugs (additional displacement option) and a crank from S&S and have an 89" stroker.


You didn't mention mileage but with increased power you may want to consider the bottom end. Just my 2 cents.

SORRY GUYS, this EVO motor was the first year of the fuel injection. NO carb on this bike, 100% fuel injection system.

V, my mechanic has a 124" Rev Tech he will drop in my bike for $4000.00 but it's a carb motor so I would loose my cruise control. But think of the HP!!! But still I would be happy with 10hp for $800.00 - $1400.00. Question is how to gain the most power for this price!

a guy I work with has a newer HD with the 110 in it and he got 16 HP from a set of pipes, programmable ignition module and programmable fuel injection module (tuned on the dyno, I seen the printout, of course that don't guarantee it was his printout).

I would start with that, and a cam, I don't imagine your results will be near the same with the older, smaller motor, but if it needs more then you can bump the compression and port the heads. bumping the compression WILL get you there.
Anything more than a small cam and pipes will require the adjustable fuel injection module anyway so you might as well do it first.

I'm going to ask my mechanic about the Rev Tech 124". I will loose the cruise control due to going to the Makuni carb on the engine and he wants $4000.00, think I'll offer $2800.00 and my pull out and he installs the Rev Tech. eBay has EVO engines with higher mileage at $1800.00. This will give me a new monster engine with 2 yrs 24k warranty and more hp than I will ever use!
