Need help to bring a Big Dog back to life

I need a little help... I first moved to Japan 2 and half years ago and brought my 2005 Ridgeback with me with hopes of riding it here. Upon arrival, I was informed that it will cost almost $10K to get it brake and emission tested (a Japanese requirement) converted over etc. to drive it here. I did not have the cash and needless to say it sat for 2 and half years. I did drain the gas tank and lines to include the carb bowl. I did not place any lubrication on the heads. It sat outside in a carport on a lift with a cover on but definitely have some surface corrosion going on. I am more concern about being able to start it and riding again and was wondering what steps should I take to get it running again. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, put it this way, I can follow directions really well and was hoping for some advice here. My options are to take it to a dealership/service center (hoping not to go this route due to limited funds), do the maintenance myself with some help from gurus here, I really don't want to sell it because I love her too much but it would be pointless if I can't ride. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is some ideas

1. Drain all fluids, install new filters
2. Remove plugs, put Marvel Mystrey Top Cylinder lubricant in the cylinders, let set over night, then with battery disconnect, rear wheel off grond, bike in 3 or 4th gear, turn engine over by hand a few good revolutions using rear tire. (10-15 or so).
3. Get new battery, fully charge up over night or for 24 hours
4. Disconnect all the eletrical connectors from the harnes and with some good contact electrical cleaner, clean out crud and the install dielectric grease, reassemble.
5. Visual inspect all hoses and wiring to make sure none is cracked-deterorated, etc.
6. Pull carb off, get carb cleaner, clean out all passages, bowls, venturis, etc. Check for cracked gasket o-ring (recommend that you put new bowl o-ring and other own). Reasemble reinstall with new intake gaskets, torque to proper specs.
7. Remove exhaust, change the exhaust gasket, reinstall to proper torque.
8. If everything is looking good, install new battery and with no fuel and the plugs still removed, crank the baby over for a few good seconds (be prepared to get oil coming out the plug holes from the Marvel Mystery oil residue).
9. Set and install new plugs
10. Fill with fresh high octane gas and maybe a little bit of Stabil fuel stabilizer in it.
11. Start her up, adjust the carb, go riding.
12. If everything seems good, ride a good hour or so, then come back and change the oil again.
13. You may want to also bleed all the brakes and add new fresh fluids
14. Make sure you check the rubber and inflate to proper specs
15. Be careful when first riding to see if anything seems loose or out of whack.
16. Most likely if she start up and you adjsut the carb, after getting a few miles on her and changing the oil again, you will be good to go.
17. Ride the piss out of her safely and to make up for time missed. have fun
18. Clean her up, polish all the billet and chrome, go have a cold one, then ride somemore and send pics

All can be done for less than $100 (will more with the battery), easily done by yourself and plenty of threads on here to help you get the advice you need and usual someone standing by if you get in a bind. barring no major prolblems (most likely not) you shold be good to go.
