Ok finally warmed up here. I rechanged my oil and used my new Scavenger unit. I had oil pulsing out of the scavenger when removing the oil. Filled her back up to 1/4 inch of bottom of the tank and my idle is at least 1050 RPM. Went for a drive and sure enough after it warmed up bang the oil light comes on at the stop light. While driving I have 25 to 30 lbs of pressure. When the light comes on when stopped I can crack the throttle and the pressure raises and light disappeers until it throttles down. Cleaned out the tappet screen and the K&P filter also. How tight do you have to put the oil cap, just hand tight? Also someone mention adjusting pushrods could that be it. What does the oil sending unit do? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Cliff

I've got a 124" in my 07 K9. I was using Amsoil 20w50 synethic. When i changed my oil at 2700 miles i started having problems with the oil light coming on at idle. Checked everything and could not find anything wrong. Talked to S&S and they said possible sticking piston oiler in the engine. Talked to my mechanic and he told me not to worry about it and drive it. I've got 15,000 miles on the bike now, running dino Lucas 50 WT oil and still have problems with the oil light coming on at idle. Gauge is showing almost zero at idle. Give it a bit of throttle and light goes out. Engine still running strong, sounds great. Don't know what the problem is.

I use Lucas 50 wt oil because it get dam hot down here. One thing you may want to do is replace the oil sending unit that sits on top of the pump. When my dog was new I had that problem that the light would come one at idle when hot. The dealer replaced the sending unit and it went away.

Little-Boo and 07bigdog first off thanks for the info,I will change my sending unit hopefully Friday. So Im taking it as my oil pump should be fine since it goes up when Im driving. Do you think this has anything do do with my pipes sometimes glowing? I'm going to reset my carb after I install my sending unit. Can I get the sending unit anywhere?
Thanks for all of your help.

The manual tells you how to test the oil sending unit. Mine checked out good, but i replaced it anyway. Same as a Harley. Around $16. Sportster sending units are different.

With everyone's help I'm back on the road. Turns out one of my new oil lines was a defected one and had a leak. I replaced all 3 and added oil and I've got great oil pressure around 10 at idle and 25 to 30 at regular speeds. Put on a lot of miles last weekend and she's ready to go. Thanks again for everyone's help.
