Need Help...... Again

Replaced my riser bushings and fixed the cables hitting the tank problem. Thanks for the replies. Now my next problem. Went to start my 06 Mastiff after gassing up yesterday and when I hit the starter I heard something break and then the starter would just spin. Scoured the site and found out that I probably broke the jackshaft. Found some posts on the site and went to work. Pulled the primary cover off and found half of the jackshaft in the primary. Removed the two bolts on the starter, removed the battery leads, loosened the belt cover and removed the battery box covers. The starter will not budge. Tried to lift it, pull it, rock it, call it a bitch..... Bastard won't move a millimeter. WTF am I missing?

Starter

Looked from the inside of the primary and don't see any bolts connected to the starter.

You do not have to remove the primary to remove the starter. Just 2 bolts hold it in place. After disconnecting the positive power cable and those 2 bolts, it should come right off.

Theres a seal thats between the starter and the inner primary. Sometimes it causes the starter to seal in place. Take a center punch or a junk screw driver and pound with a mallet on the jackshaft that's left on the starter. Tape up your trans and any other chrome so you don't scratch it, also plenty of rags will do to help protect the chrome. Only two bolts holding the starter on like Brad said, Good luck...:2thumbs:

Hey once you do get it off, don't go buy a whole new starter, most automotive starter shops will have a replacement shaft that fits. I paid $10 for new/used shaft and it has held up for three years now. :2thumbs:

Got the starter off. Removed the exhaust and saw the bolt that I hadn't removed. I swear I took two bolts out of the starter last night. Oh well. Live and learn, right? Hopefully the local alternator/starter shop will be able to replace the jackshaft for this jackass. Thanks for the help guys.

The local shop can't get a jackshaft. Any idea if anyone sells them online?

Jackshaft Part Number

Ok, thanks to all the posts I was able to find the following:

The jackshaft is made by Denso Heavy Duty Electric, a very common manufacturer of starters and parts. My local shop couldn't search for the exact part and didn't think they had anything like it. Once I told him it was a Denso Part #028381-0040 he punched the number in and said "well shit, I do have one of those"!

I had the shop install it and bench test it. They charged me $40.00 but I'm sure most of that was labor. The invoice didn't break the cost down.
