Any HD Dealer if you can find one to work with you

Denvers dealer works well with everyone during this time of year (Prepping to Kiss ass during Sturgis with all the bikes on I25) ;)

Seems to me any parts counter guy worth anything should be able to go back and grab a couple of intake gaskets for an evo motor off the shelf in the dark with out looking it up on a computer.

The S&S manifold on your motor requires S&S O-rings.

Per S&S

"S&S style O-rings must be used with their manifolds. S&S O-rings are slightly thinner to accommodate larger S&S port diameter. Use of stock style O-rings may damage the manifold."

Yes you would think that, even after asking for evo gaskets.

Unfortunately for me I think they noticed the Big dog I rode in on and parked in the carpark, and decided to play dumb. I really didn't wish I have to go visit that place, but i also own a HD, and visiting the dealer for parts is a part of life.

KaptinAmerika, you recommend not to use Evo motor intake gaskets, and only the specific S&S ones?

If you take the two and compare them the S&S are thinner.
Based on that, S&Ss warning and my knowledge of materials, fabrication and machining yes I would recommend using only the S&S style gasket.
I've never seen a broken or damaged manifold due to the wrong gaskets being used but I suspect S&S has.

Hey Lock. What's your email? I got a S&S to HD cross reference chart.
There is no cross reference for S&S Side Winder and Super Side Winder intake manifold gaskets.
S&S does sell stock Harley manifold gaskets but as they state they are not designed to be used with their intake manifold for the Super and Super Side Winder motors. Use stock Harley at your own risk.
If there was a true cross reference for these gaskets, as there are for many of the other parts, it would be in their catalog.

Very first place to look is bookmark the vendors that are here.
Very next thing is here comes this guy again and his elixir manpills to pop. That means I have a gaggle of men and women that when the intake no longer sucks and it sucks you were going for a ride with the regs, now I have to wait for the mail to ride.

What happens if I go out to my bike now and being it is so cold is the bike, I spray contact cleaner with a bucket of water next to me just in case. Why cold? I start cold so if I idle now I'll still have a leak look at that gasket it's not an overnight thing. I'd be on it now and hard starting is first thing is more air than that sealed ratio of fuel to air not air to air ratio think = Hard starting. That's out of the way maintenance check wise, [go check]. Why? I'm upselling that bookmark you saved.

Well, I don't want to wait:
1. With bulk vinegar at costco, I dip the manifold into the solution till it covers the manifold.
2. I take my clean to bare aluminum; sprayed off with carb cleaner; then rinsed with water; I am standing in front of the 0-ring drawers at home center that has a selection.
3. I found the right outer diameter, but the o-ring is huge. Being I am at due it center, I picked up a pack of razors to cut the o-ring down and a tube of 'amazing goop' so I can close the ends and the closing side is at the coolest end of the manifold. Not that amazing can't hang with the heat is ask me how I know?

There are no more decoder rings to hand out, snore Sven'sin'aries looking up the meaning of...

Yep, and that's all well and good Sven if they have your background. But for anyone who doesn't wouldn't you suggest obtaining the correct parts as per the manufacturers requirements and recommendations? Or are you really suggesting that an average guy who is capable of turning a wrench and following instructions but nothing else, not that I am saying the individual who started this thread is that just referring to who knows how many others that may read this, try fabbing his own manifold O-rings out of some O-rings he may have laying around, vinegar and some goop of some sort?
I suppose if your that desperate to ride what do you have to lose. Oh that's right maybe a motor because the hokey job you tried doing is leaking, made the motor run stupid lean and a piston just detonated.......:roll::roll:

I'm juz sayin

No cappy, the suggestion was 'correct O/D. The other was the sharp razor and a clean vertical cut to the o-ring. And glue will take the heat if we use 'amazing goop' not just any goop. Unless you are saying the members are too mechanically challenged to cut a rubber to butt up against the other side and an assist of glue to keep it there?

That is why some will take the challenge to walk out and spray their manifold or why do you think I sign off as no one listens till it's too late? :D

Because it Ain't My Bike on the side of the road I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, but I sure figured out something simple to get back up an running out of the hot sun, son. :hi:
