I know about the reserve/on position and did I mention the petcock is clear of debris? No green on the screen, clean as a whistle. I can go 85 miles while switching to reserve.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE ADVISE. I POSTED THIS THREAD IN SEPT 2010 AND SOLD THE BIKE OVER A YEAR AGO. I SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY REDOING THE TANK LINER. IT WAS ORIGINALLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND SENT TO BIG DOG IN KANSAS. ABOUT 5 DAYS AFTER THEY RECEIVED MY TANK THEY CLOSED THEIR DOORS. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO GET MY TANK BACK AND THEY CHARGED ME $600.00. I WAS EXTREMELY PISSED OFF! I RODE THE BIKE FOR ANOTHER YEAR AND SOLD IT. I KEPT THE S&S 117 OFF THE BIKE AND SENT THE HEADS TO BRANCH TO HAVE THEM PORTED. I ADDED CAMS AND PUT IT IN MY 1996 FATBOY. I SOLD THE BIKE ON EBAY WITHOUT THE ENGINE.

THANKS AGAIN.

I've been having the same problem with my '05 Pitbull, the fuel mileage has gone from 95 to 85 miles then it stalls. But when I check the tank for gas it is still visible!. I have checked the cap for proper ventilation, petcock is clear of debris, fuel line from tank to carb is clear, tank liner is fine, so what should be my next step? does the carb have a filter on the inside? also when I fuel up the tank only takes about 2 1/2 gallons to fill up and I know the specs say 4.5 capacity. It's driving me CRAZY!! Any suggestions??
Not to be a smart azz or nuthin but are you filling both sides of the tanks. On the 05 and earlier pit you have to fill the left side and the right side. The cap on the left hand side has opposite threads.

Just throwin this out there it has happened before.

Dumb story, but I've never owned a dual tank bike.....I bought a 2003 mastiff with less than 1k miles(on Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore).....I let my independent go thru it just to sort it out......picked it up and after being told to fill it up immediately, I went less than a mile and it took less than 2 gallons.......over the first 500 miles(at 50 at a time) the bike was gas starved on every trip.......two posts above V was NOT being a smart ass. I first read of filling the left tank on here and when I got the cap off(clockwise with a cloth covered oil filter wrench), I peered into the left tank and it looked like pond water......the crossover was all but sealed and let gas balance "kinda" balance over night.....the left tank looks like it's from ww2 inside......the tank was full of what looked like scotch tape(the liner) and that IS the problem of what everyone's talking on here......the EMS petcock looks 90 years old, the screen is completely rusted out.....EMS(now defunct I think) made one of the strongest petcocks ever made....I understand they said they weren't rebuildable as all internals were teflon........I swear, as simple as it sounds, it might be the left tank......my Indy didn't even know that (he won't admit, but whatever).......Like V said when you go to take off the cap it opens CLOCKWISE!!!!!! I'm now up against changing the petcock to a pingel and need the exact part # if anyone has it.

Thanks all on here, EXCELLENT owner's forum..........

2003 mastiff (HEAVILY accessorised by some millionaire who built a "catalog" bike) still trying to get confidence on.
Second dawg on the way is a 2003 chopper with springer front end,, 22k miles and a complete history on it from a VERY
competent owner......looking forward to it's delivery in a couple weeks.!!!

BEST TO ALL!!!!!!
