I am down to 1 key for the bike and none of my local locksmiths are having any luck in trying to make one. Do I have to go back to BDM to get another one? The key has a code on it , I would think they would need that code. Calling BDM about anything is a joke. Its hard to get any info or somebody to answer the phone at a company that is barely still existing!

You have a few options....continue to contact BDPP or replace the ignition switch altogether.

One of the old ones.
I just called Iron Lightning in Tulsa (918-459-0988), gave 'em my key# and a week later had two or three new (original) keys....

if you have one key, take the number off of it and contact amylulu at strokers/dallas and she should be able to get you as many as you want. if not, there is a thread on here about swapping out the switch with one from of all places, tractor supply.

I've ordered spare keys from BDM Performance Parts with no issues. Keys arrived within 4 days. Just call and give them the number.

Anything i need from BDM performance products, i just e-mail them and tell them what i want and ask if they have it in stock? Usually hear back from them within 3 days. Order the item and get it within 4-5 days even with cleaing customs.

A good locksmith/key shop should be able to cut a key. When I carried my one key into Bill’s Lock & Key in Albuquerque NM the female that waited on me ask what the hell was the key for. I told her a Big Dog Motorcycle. She went right over to the peg board that had at least a hundred ++ different blanks hanging on it. She pick one out and cut it. She told me if it didn't work to bring the bike to the store and she said she guaranteed she could cut a key that would. When i got home put the key in and it worked without any issues. Went back a few weeks later and had 4 more cut just to have them.

I don't know about the newer models , mine is a 2004. The switch that was in mine could be started with an Exmark lawn mower key. You could pull it out, leave it running, and cut the yard at the same time. The only good thing when I replaced to Wire plus , I also replaced that switch. I replaced the switch earlier with one just like it thinking it was wore out but the new switch could be worked with the lawn mower key as well. I think I gave that switch to someone in here keys and all.

I have about three sets around here. I don't use the stock ignition switch anymore. Pm me the number on your key and if its the same as mine I'll send them to you.
Believe it or not but there aren't that many combinations

I ordered 2 keys off of bdmperformanceproducts.com site. Go into the exploded view by bike and for a 2006 Pittbull it looks like it is either
•Key – 4 Tumbler Ignition – 171-000006-00 – (Fits Key Code VD-01 – VD99) or
•Key – 5 Tumbler ignition – 170-000029-00 - (Fits Key Code VD100 & Up) They are $10.93 each
Depending on your key # 1-99 or 100 & up will tell you which to order. In the comment or instruction field when ordeering just list your key # which will probably actually start with BD. I received mine pretty quickly and both work perfectly. Only thing is the new keys you receive will not have the number on them so you may want to write it down for future reference... Just in case.
