:(I'm preping my bike for Jims belt drive every thing is going pretty smooth, except for a couple of things. I havent receved my instructions yet but I'm going on the advice from our how to section. The problem I'm having is 1. The clutch rod does'nt seem to want to pull out like in the picture. 2. How in the *%^$&#$% do you get the second bolt out of the starter without removing the batt box:angry:. If I can resolve these two things I think the rest will be a snap.

don't know about the 2nd bolt, but there should be a slight shoulder on the push rod. just give it a little harder pull. other than that, IDK

Ok, after a couple of swivel joints electircal tape I finally got the second bolt out of the starter. now for the clutch rod. it seems to be somewhat locked in place, it will turn about a quarter of a turn in and out like its connected to something. I loosened the cables completely free. I have no ideal what to do. Why does this need to be pulled back?

If you use the same clutch rod, it probably doesn't need to come out. I assume you have the adj cover off and the nut removed and rod un-threaded? Should pull out unless corroded up inside there - in which case you'll likely want to remove it, clean and re-lube.
I see you have the starter bolt out now, but I've found that an 18" extension with a swivel on the end will get 'em both on a K9. I just finished removing inner primary without taking anything off right side. (PITA - but doable)
You might want to replace left side trans main shaft seal while your in there - cheap insurance.

take the pulley cover off and see whats going on. it needs to be free for future cluch adjustments. sounds like high heat grease wasnt used on the shaft.

Jims makes an open primary for BD's dssc?

on the right side remove that threaded cap on the pulley cover.

then while using an allen wrench to hold the rod from spinning remove the lock nut. then unthread the clutch push rod and remove.

when reinstalling use high temp grease and slide the rod i slowly as not to push the ramp apart in the pulley cover. otherwise you need to get into that to reset the ball bearings.

Befor I read the last post I went out and tryed to lossen the nut. had no luck its just not acting right. what i have is after i took the cover off, the nut and allen head move in and out about a half of a inch. I tryed to loosen the nut, but it want's to go back inside its hole so its hard to keep a wrench on the nut. tryed a socket but can't hold the allen head. when i turn the nut with the socket it turnes, very hard though but the shaft does not turn, I'm touching it on the left side. I guess if i knew how this thing works or made it would be easier. I figure its a shaft with a lock nut so you can adjust your clutch. is it a floating shaft with play both ways without tension on the clutch? I need a break

use a deep socket on the lock nut, the allen wrench through the socket, and while holding the allen turn the socket with channel locks.

you want an offset ring spanner (don't what you call it in the States). You don't really need to hold the allen while breaking it loose - you just need to hold that in position when adjusting the clutch. How does it work? The allen is part of the rod itself - the threads are on the rod itself. Get your wrench on it and give it a tap - should break loose - then just unscrew the pushrod and pull it

Lay the bike on the right side and take a big fucking hammer till it breaks off.:eek: Holy Shit Carpet man you are going to install a belt drive and are having problems removing the clutch rod. Humm :loony: I think you need to get some help with the install to get things lined up and the clutch properly adjusted. We can walk you thru this on here, but it's going to take some ball and a big torque wrench to get the engine and clutch nuts torqued to the engine / tranny plate.

Make sure you clean out all the oil from the stator, if you don't it is going to appear like you have an oil leak till it all drains out.

Good Luck follow instructions to the "T" and use lots of red thread locker on the rear / clutch nut.
