NC and helmets

sure, but if say you refuse to show that your helmet complies then you get a ticket for sure

so how does that help?

it varies state to state - in California, you can't be stopped solely for not wearing a seatbelt ( i believe ) but if you get stopped for another reason then they can tack the seatbelt charge on to it... as always, there's a lot of bad/wrong advice on traffic laws on the internet

the problem with helmet laws is really the problem of healthcare nowadays - who pays for the medical bills of someone who rides w/o a helmet, crashes, but survives with massive brain injuries and no health insurance? I agree anyone should decide if they want to wear a helmet or not, but I also think that as part of that choice -

no helmet + massive/longterm health costs + no health insurance = you chose to let the MD's let you die ...

save the public resources that would be spent on (you) for kids w/o health insurance

i for one am sick of paying for other peoples decisions and fully support personal responsibility - a lost concept in the country it seems

blame the lawmakers/lawyers - tying everyone up in knots
Well, what about the people who are injured by other peoples' failure to pay attention?

Then they (myself) are left with injuries and are only given "liability coverage" . Then i'm expected to reimburse my health insurance because it was someone else's fault. I get nothing for being out of work 2 mos, suffering through surgery and pain.

So... yeah "i for one am sick of paying for other peoples decisions and fully support personal responsibility".

What now? I had full coverage vehicle insurance and full health "BlueCross BlueSheild". But i'm stuck dealing.

same with cagers and seatbelts, if they can just click a belt and reduce the chances of who has to pay for the medical bills - then either 1. get full coverage and choose whether or not to wear a belt or 2. click the damn seatbelt and you'll still get public assistance

my point is this - doesn't matter who's at fault - the "system" of healthcare only has limited resources, the US is becoming the richest 3rd world country ever ... so if you "choose" to ride w/o a belt or a helmet, then you "choose" to forgo any treatments you can't pay for

of course this isn't realistic, no paramedic is gonna check your healthcare, and no MD is gonna let anyone die ... while I hate to defend the lawmakers, this is about the best option out there - try to reduce injuries and the severity of injuries to reduce healthcare costs

and thats about it from me... in a perfect world you could make any choice you wanted and it wouldn't affect anyone else. needless to say but i'll go ahead anyway ------> not a perfect world
