Nail in tire

Eh, how's everybody doing? I've got a nail in my rear tire. I just want to stick a plug in the hole right on the bike. Can anyone tell me if the tire is tubeless or does it have a tube?

Tubeless, I had a small one and the dealer plugged it and it has been fine, doesn't leak and is going strong after 5500 miles...

my 2 cents buy a new tire , a blow out at 80 isnt worth saving,,spend the 200 bucks
that tire is at least 280 and 100 to mount. Depends on the life left in it. plug it an d then make your decision. It also depends on where the nail is. good luck

I got a plug put in the tire today. It had a screw about an inch long right in the center of the tire. My tire only has 450 miles on it. I talked to a couple of people who have gone to the local HD dealer to get tires changed or repaired, and everyone complained about them scratching or marking up their rim. When they approached the guy on it, he said it was like that before he worked on it. That's why i'm leary about pulling the tire off.

Obviously the safest thing to do is replace the tire. However, I once got a nail in my rear tire after only getting a few hundred miles on it. No mechanic would plug it due to liability reasons, but then one mechanic told me that if it was HIS tire, he'd just plug it. I ended up plugging it with one of those pocket plug kits, and I then put 10,000 miles on it.

Patch it, if it's new, if it's old replace it.

If it ever happens to a front tire, replace it.

I've plugged one to get me home and rode it for a couple of months, as the tire was old and needed to be replaced anyway.

Just plug it, especially with 450 miles! And even if it does go out it just loses air, its not like the thing explodes and launches you like a Sir Lancelot catapult. I've had flats on the race track doing 150+ on a street bike, in a turn and on it hard and it just goes squishy quick...you can slow in time. Now the only problem is what to do with a big flat tire!

Thanks for the support. It makes me feel better. I know replacing it would be the right thing to do, but i could end up with a garage full of tires with hardly any miles on them. I don"t really have a convient source to get a new one anyhow. I would have to order it state side and get it shipped here, thus adding to the cost.

I picked up a nail in my rear tire the first week I rode my Pit Bull. I was in Destin, and didn't know or trust anybody put'n their dickskinners on my new bike, so I bought a repair kit at an auto parts store, and plugged the tire in the parking lot. I have ridden 3000 miles without a problem.
BTW, when I ride I am allways conscious of the paracentric inversions.

This is my train of thought. But you may have problems getting somebody to patch it. So just plug it. Keep an eye on it.

had two plugs in mine. One at 2k and the other at 9k. Changed the tire at 10k and had no problem. The shop did the first and I did the second. If it happens again just make sure it is not in the same quarter of the tire. If it is you should replace it. Mine were 180 apart.

Would you trust the integrity of a tire going 70+? I got a nail at 4k and for $320 not worth the worry of what could happened ... got 9k on my new 300 and plenty more to go ... my .02cents also:D  Besides no one would patch it ... plugs kept on leaking ... :spank:
