$635 for 2 tyres fitted, you think that is expensive.:loony:
I paid $740 just for the rear tyre once.............not anymore.
Besides $635 is cheap copared to medical bills or worse if you have a blow out.
Got my cobras from motoxoutlet.com. $225 for 300mm. My mechanic installs for $65. Great price in my opinion.

Also depends. Did you remove the tire and carry it to the shop? Or did they remove the tire from the bike? Labor adds up.

Misfit, No disrespect meant just saying a leak in a tire at 75 mph is something you won't forget.

:confused:Looking at the original picture, it seems strange to me that your bike guy could not successfully patch/plug the nail hole. I guess it was meant to be replaced.

BTW, you can get a 300mm tire at the Dennis Kirk or the Motorcycle Superstore for around $250. I usually buy my 330mm tires at either place for just under $300. Free shipping also applies. I am lucky because I change and balance my own tires but it works for me because of the number of bikes and tire changes I do. Also, the lovely spousal unit doesn't get as bent out of shape when I need to purchase a tire.:D

No joke brother, that's what was starting to eat away at me LOL
Never really thought about stuff like that before the wife and kids came along.

How many of you have a patched car tire and have had problems with it? How many of you may be missing a bolt or 2 on your bike and not even know it?

I had a new tire with less than 60 miles on it and picked up a nail. I only noticed it because I had it up on a stand and was polishing the rear rim and came across it by accident. I rode another 6200+ miles on it after I PATCHED it.

It's personally your comfort level, but I felt just fine patching and riding on it.

Hope my lack of insight and knowledge helps.

I managed to get 2 nails in a brand new rear tire. Plugged them and haven't looked back in 2,000 mi. For peace of mind I did go from my novelty helmet to a used DOT helmet which I traded for a six pack of beer. First time out, wouldn't you know it, the DOT sticker fell off the helmet!

I just replaced that rear tire that I had plugged. Had about 5000 miles on it, and my Dana beads were stuck all over it. I grabbed it from the inside and gave it a tug, can't pull it out with my fingers.

 Now, that's interesting..... is it normal (time frame/mileage), for this to happen?

Don?

Absolutely, the beads are going to stick to the volcanizing cement (glue) that is used for the plug. I wouldn't think it wouldn't be enough to throw off the balance though, maybe a couple hundred would collect on it, but there are thousands of them in 1 once and you should have 3 ounces in the 300 tire.

I plugged mine. Of course I found the nail when my bike was sitting on display for a car/motorcycle show. I got 4000 more miles before I replaced it with no probs.

I wasn't complaining that the beads stuck, I knew that they would. I was just stating the fact, because they were talking about plugging a tire. And no, I was unable to notice an imbalance problem with the tire.

Put a new 180 on the HD in Fayetteville WV last year had about 1200 miles on it (900 running home) when I got a nail, I plugged it (No Beads) still running fine!

If you patch from the inside correctly or use a mushroom plug with no glue, I don't see a Dyna Bead sticking issue happening. I did a mushroom plug on my 305 70R16 tire on my truck in the parking lot without losing but 2 lbs of air when the screw was removed 4 years ago and forget it's there and probably can't find it. That tire is 9 years old and might need replacing in a couple of years once it hits the wear bars or I think it is unsafe! No, I probably would not keep a tire that long on a motorcycle but come to think of it, Stephanie's Bonneville has original tires from 2001!

Do ya's think I can plug this one? Out riding today and had to get my son to get my truck and trailer to come pick me up. Yes thats a pencil in the tire.

When he came to pick me up this is what the tongue looked like on my trailer and believe it or not the ball was sandwiched between the jack post and the crushed tongue. Now I'm thinking HOLY MOTHER OF $%^, I need my bike and trailer towed.:angry: He swore he had it latched, well lets just move on, it is what it is. So I thought how bad could it get if I loaded the bike in the trailer and it broke loose driving it 8 miles home. They are insured:loony:
Well I made it home, unloaded the bike out of the trailer and took it to the nearest trailer shop about 1-1/2 miles away and used a 6 foot digging iron to pry the ball out of the tongue. and no it didn't even touch the bumper.:roll::roll::roll:
