You won't find any shop who will fix it. I'd personally plug it myself. Did it on a 250 I had and rode it another 2000 miles. Many will say it's too dangerous.

I picked up a nail on the hwy going about 65mph and when the tire started going flat, it was seriously the most scared I've ever been on my K9, it was totally out of control. So, my advice is, my life is worth a whole lot more than the cost of a $300 tire. I put a new tire on the next day, of course the tire that picked up the nail was only about 3 weeks old. Ugh! But, as I said, my life is worth more.

I've plugged mine but it wasn't in the thin part of the thread like yours! I would replace that one, the rubber thickness isn't there...

The rubber part of the tire is essentially just there for traction and ride. The strength of tire is in the layers below.

Dunlops website actually states you can plug/patch a tire, but emphasis on tire off rim method.

I plugged the tire I am running now. It had about 300 miles on it then, I am ready for a new one now, and had no problems, even though it was constantly on my mind. Do what you feel is best.

If you are thinking of plugging or patching the tire, I would suggest a plug/patch. Those were the only tire repairs that we were allowed to do when I was a Cadillac Tech. You must break down the tire and install from the inside through the hole. Every GM dealership should have them in parts and in different sizes.

I have used several plugs, patches and a combinations of both.
They are only a "quick fix" to get you to your next available tyre replacement place.
Flat tyre on a bike is no fun, especially at 60 MPH.

I put 11 plugs in one hole as my spares had shreaded in middle of the Simpson desert on at 10R15 4x4 tyre, was still driving on it 3 mths later. Oops.

this..

When I picked up a nail in my left rear on the S4 a local German car indy shop recommended a plug/patch....

They work great I have had no issues at all and believe me that Audi gets driven hard.. :2thumbs:

I had two plugs in my old venom. Went several thousand miles on it afterwards. Just check your tire pressure to make sure your not leaking .

Run rope plugs. No need to remove tire. If Dunlop says you can run a plug... Duh! I've plugged car and bike tires. Still corner hard, high speeds, etc.

A nail hole is a repair. A long slit is not.

well Sadly the plug did not work.

The guy at my bike shop tried 3 different kinds of plug and it still had air leaking.

so I am now getting new front and rear (front was close to needing replaced)
But I don't know were you guys live cause its $420 installed for the rear tire I wish it was $300 :(

But at the end of the day $635.00 for front&rear and piece of mind then I guess I am ok with that.

$635 for 2 tyres fitted, you think that is expensive.:loony:
I paid $740 just for the rear tyre once.............not anymore.
Besides $635 is cheap copared to medical bills or worse if you have a blow out.

I don't think its expensive but my wife sure does, she vetoed getting the new front for now. So only the rear is being done.

My comment was related to people say'n "$300 for a tire, my life is worth that"

and for sure no disrespect meant to anyone.
