I can't tell from the pics if he found out where it came from or is he just comparing it to the starter areas
No I did compare and while it looks like it. Those are not threaded and I couldn't line it up to the fitment.
He said it was threaded but they could be from where it sat and vibrated on the bolt
No too threaded I literally sat a tap in it to confirm the threads. Also those bolts are not threaded at the top, that's why I took the pic
Has to be part of the inner primary. I'd start taking it back apart if it was mine. :(
You would think it would be leaking. Can't be from inside it's chrome.

Only thing chromed and threaded I can think of one the outer would be the inspection cover thread's. My inner primary is chromed. Hmm.

Looking forward to retirement
If it is your inner primary case PM me. You have seen my bike so you know I run open primary and I still have my closed primary case inner and outer. I'll make you a sweetheart deal! Plus over night it to you in Dallas!

As I said earlier, it really looks like its from the inside primary assembly. The outer case where the bolt goes is chromed, go back and look at the pics I posted earlier....check all your outer primary cover screws with an allen carefully, one of them should be loose....

I'm still thinking rocker box. You were just tightening them down the other day...

Not the same bike actually that was the 04 this was the 07. And rockers are fine I checked those

Well since I looked everything for an hour and I couldn't find where this came from I rolled the dice and I rode today 200 miles and no leaks so can't be outer/inner Primary. The inner primary the bolts there are only two 1/4 and those are on the front side and are intact, Rest are 5/16. I checked the outside primary cover bolts nothing is broke.

I'm going to take the starter out and replace it with my spare I did notice some stress cracks on the starter maybe it's still the starter I don't know if that's it but it looks like it's past it's service life I guess at 6k miles :( hell I don't think I can even get this one rebuilt since its cracked.

Did that too! Have a spare laying around and reviewed it.

Must be it....

Wait those are not threaded either!

So after riding it today and came home I took the piece and looked at the spare starter again. Last night I wasn't able to line it up to the spare but it has to be the starter housing. I was able to line it up today and the only difference between the broken one is it's threaded vs my spare is not. But I have to think it really it the starter.

Looks close enough to me. This is on the bottom side of the starter which I was unable to see or get a mirror. Next weekend starter is coming out. I think y'all were right it's the starter even though it still worked for 200 miles just fine! Haha

Looks like a little starter BANG would bust that up:yesnod:
Haha possible I'm curious to see if the new starter fixes this. There was no bang yesterday.
It didn't have to last for 200 miles, just the few seconds for each restart.
Agreed just the 8-9 start cycles. Going to try and get some of it done after work this week but we will see so I can have the bike ready for the weekend. Another nice much cooler weekend in Texas.

I'll have to ship the old one off to Curtis to have rebuilt for the next time. See if he has a new starter housing laying around and if it's cheaper than buying a new one. Seeing new ones on EBay for $300

I've also got a new set of pipes I bought a few years ago and I haven't had the time to put them on. I might try and fit those since I think I need to remove the exhaust to get to the starter. Although I believe I'll need to fab a bracket so will see if I have the time.

Be careful of Ebay, I purchased one from there, they said it was new but chrome wasn't perfect, turns out it was milled too deep for the oil groove and it filled up with primary oil to the point that oil was dripping out the starter, starter was junk:oldangry:

Few years ago, I purchased a used but cleaned up starter on ebay. Great score on ebay, been in bussines for many years. Well wrapped and in great condition. I used it for a while and all was fine. One day, I got a slam sound and broke the jackshaft. I swapped the starters and the alternator guy show showed me where the old jackshaft was welded and cleaned up. It broke exactly along the original break. The funny thing is that the guy is on here and well respected. I never said anything to him about it. Lesson learned.

Glad you found yr problem.
