I had an Interstate Battery in my scooter before hand from the "Original" battery. The interstate battery was ok as long as it wasn't cold or even kinda cool weather. I replaced it with Braille battery upon many in here telling me it was the way to go. It cranked the motor like a monster compared to the interstate battery from the get go. This past summer I did not get to ride too much and the scooter stayed covered up in the garage with no tender on it. About two weeks ago we had a warm day and I had the erge to take it out. So I put the battery charger on it but it still had an 80% charge ! I checked it about an hour later and it was at 100% charge,,,, so I fired that mother up and we went for a ride. There are no regrets for paying a little more for the braille battery here. Going to try to ride more this year,, well that is the plan anyway. I you want the best why not get the best,,, screw all those cheap battery issues! just my thoughts anyway ,,

I agree with your reasoning about the best, but I select what I apply that to. With that being said, I believe there are good and bad in just about everything you can buy, favoring the good side. I have a cheap battery for 3 yrs now (always on a tender) and will see what the 4th year brings come spring, I do carry a XP-3 with me for piece of mind and will prolly replace when needed with the same type battery as I have. Just my 2 cents

I opted agaisn't the Braille - I know people speak them up but after 3 yrs I rather just get a new battery. I have had Deka Batteries, and currently in my rigid I bought a Walmart battery probably 1.5 years ago and it works great and was $99. It has 310 CCA and cranks the 107 just fine.

I just bought a Lightening Start Battery for $99 on Amazon for the K9 as the Deka died, don't know how old it is. The Lightening Start Batter States 500CCA (Althought Im hestitant to believe it) . I haven't cranked the 117 with it over yet but I'll track how long it last and my opinion if I can get 3 yrs out of it thats all I need for $100.

As a note the Lightening Start battery ships from Cali - but it is indeed a Chinese battery.

I've have one in my K9 now for about a month.
Spins the crap out of my non-EPA 124.
Put it in with 13.53 volts. Its sat for over a week at a time, working way too much, and when I go out and check it still has 13.53 volts.
They are supposed to last up to 8 years, with proper care and maintenance, but it will take some time before I can speak to that first hand.
On top of all this I shed 10lbs.....:roll:
They are expensive though.

Five Five swears by the Tomioka.
Says he doesn't even own a trickle charger but I have no experience with them.

As I have gotten older hopefully wiser I try to get something that is warranty until Forever and especially something I am not constantly replacing or fighting with. Most of the time as the old saying goes You get what you pay for

I guess my point was if I get the 4yrs out of my current cheap battery and another 3-4 outta the next cheap battery, it will still be cheaper than a Braille and no way will you get 6-8 yrs from the Braille. Some guys have had problems with the Braille in the 2nd year. And like I said, there's good and bad in about everything you buy favoring the good side. To each there own and it was just my .02 cents:whoop::cheers:

I have to buy a new battery as well. I put it off all last season. It would start it but it was weak. worse case pushing it off is really pretty easy.

Brailes for 150? ok will spend the extra, but 200 bucks is 2 cheap bats... so probably looking for something else.

Not sure what i want to do in the cheaper area.

I am a firm believer in the battery tender, I have a multi-bank tender for all my toys and my diesel tractor(6yr old), mower(7yr old), ATV(3yr old), K9(6yr old) are ALL still on their original batteries. Without the tender I know that I would have replaced multiple batteries by now. I do have a brand new Braille sitting on the tender as a back-up for when the K9 decides to die.

Harley batterys have been doing good in all my scoots. Hasn't been very cold here this year yet but my Mastiff has had the battery in it for over 2 years now with no issues. 4 years for my harley and a year and a half in my Ridgeback. I only put them on a tender if I'm not planning on riding for a while. I try to ride them everyday swapping them out each day I ride, so the batterys stay pretty much charged by the scoots system... :D

If you're running a good charging system on the scoot, there's really no reason you cant get at least 3 years out of a battery, I would think.

My yeasu (or whatever there called) came with my bike when I purchased it back in Jan 2011. Going on 4 years this year. Always on a "smart charger". I'll see what happens this year with it.

There are 3 school of thoughts when it comes to batteries:

1: Buy the best and keep it as long as you can.

Problem: The problem I see with this and I've done it is the battery will die when you least need it to and you will be stuck somewhere at midnight looking at a rain storm approaching and the tow service says it will be at least 3 hr's before they can get someone to you. After the first 2 years this can happen at any time and you will have to worry about it on every ride.

With a good battery some guys get 5 -6 years and some get only 2 -3 years. Roll the dice.

2: Buy a fairly good battery and keep it for 2 -3 years. Problem: See #1

3: Buy a cheap battery every year with a 1 year warranty and should it go bad (which they seldom do in 1 year) get a new one for free. Problem: See #1

So, each one has the same problem just a different time frame. In my opinion the cheap battery every year is the way to go because you will have peace of mind and won't have to worry about it going dead as much if you keep a tender on it.

I would rather buy a Lighting start battery with 450 ca @ $98 each. At $98 per year it's just good insurance that I will get home and in the 12 years I figured this out I have never not got home because of a battery. I put my old battery in my riding lawnmower or generator.

To solve this problem I always carry the Antigravity XP-3, I agree with Nuke, there's peace of mind whether the battery is 1 year old or 4, if you have one of these with you. And you might even be able to help a fellow biker sometime like I did in Daytona last year.

SG is a 124 and the chopper is a 111

Just replaced the one in the SG the other night. It lasted two years, but it spent a lot of time at the shop without the tender.

When you say get stuck, I dont understand, once the bike has been started that day, they push off almost instantly... 2-3 gear, and waddle down the parking lot with bike rolling under you and BAM, its running again.
