My Bike Keeps Cutting OUT?????

I took the bike down to do some modifications to it. I decked the cylinders, cc'd the heads, installed a 600 Lift Cam and the compression is right at 10.8 to 1.

When I had the heads CC'd the machinist mentioned that it was leaking so he did a valve job on one head. Could this cause any related to any of this?

One thing to keep in mind, I did notice this high speed cutting out when the bike was stock. (before I did the work) It is much more noticeable now.

I did check both jets and what I had was a 31 intermediate and a 76. I left the intermediate and went to an 80 on the main. As i said before, not much change at all. The plugs looked lean that is why I upped the main. I did not actually test ride pull over etc and check that way.

It seems like it is missing a bit at idle. There is much more flow out of the exhaust on the front cylinder than the rear and it misses just a bit on the rear. Any suggestions here? Could this be part of the trouble?

I'm checking the fuel cap now.

Thanks
Is what you are feeling at high RPM a bogging/no throttle response? I would say for our area you are flooding it but only a dyno with the analyser in the pipe can tell. But an 80 main is large. When the carb transistions at the 2500-3000 rpm range you may be flooding it out.
Just for reference I'm running a 72.

K guys, At the higher RPM's It seems like it is running on one cylinder. When I roll on real slow the R's come up OK. When I hit it hard and it rolls to around 3K R's, it starts cutting out again. (da da da da da) I rode the bike and pulled over to look at the jets and they looked fine.

I think it may be the ignition, so I'm considering buying a Y2KI. I'm at the point to start R&Ring stuff. I'll guess I'll change up the spark plug wires and possibly a new coil/dual fire. Not sure yet. Everything seems to look ok.

I do have the wire plus kit in the bike and I don't know if this could have some to do with it. Loose wire or something. I hate intermittent probs. I'm about ready to gut the bike and start over with basic wiring. This thing is driving me crazy.

I do have the springer softail that seems to always run. May be riding that until this gets worked out. LOL

Thank you all for your help so far, keep coming with suggestions....

could it be something as simple as a clogged petcock screen slowing down the fuel flow with the quick throttle response?????? or maybe a deteriorated fuel line?

Finally I was able to finger this out. One issue was the carburetion and the main jet size. I increased it to 80 because I thought it may be running to lean. After no significant change, I went back to 76 and still same result. I decided for shits and giggles to put in a 68 and the bike cleared up and had all kinds of RPM's. It may be running a bit lean at moment but the carburation was the issue.

I also found an issue with the switch I installed in the stock coil mount. I switched over to wire plus and a new switch is provided. The switch is a bit bigger then the original and sits very very close to the coil plug wire. I found I was getting an intermittent miss due to the spark jumping over to switch.

Needless to say, I ended up with a new Dyna 2KI ignition out of the deal, but it obviously wasn't necessary. To fix the switch problem, I plan to install the Vulcan Single Fire/Dual Coil Setup when I save up a few more coins then this should eliminate any future issues.

Thank you all for your help and guidance on this. It was a bit hectic but I know my Dog much better now.....

Finally figured out the root cause

Gents,
I've been fighting my dog since the last posts and believe I have found the issue.

After removing the baffles, with a 76 main jet, the bike took off like a rocket. I believe the exhaust I am running is the daisy cutters? They are stepped fromn 1.75 to 2.25 and have 6 inch baffles in it. Like I said, after removing the baffles, the bike finally ran right and almost scared me. Hehe.

Anyways, I can't run the bike without baffles??? Has anyone experienced anything like this and do you have any suggestions?

It's a 2004 Ridgeback.....

Cut the baffles in half and try running them like that. Why can't you run without them? My wife does. Well, her bike does anyway.
