My 2 Cents Worth about BDM

When I first bought my 03 chopper I wasn't even home yet and the gas tank sprung a leak at one of the attach points. Tank was sent to Wichita for repair and in 2 weeks all was great. That bike was a jewel, but got stolen, WITH a rotor lock in place.
Bought a new 04 chopper and my days in hell began on the way home with it. LOUD engine noise, after adjusting the valves several times, and replacing the heads with no good results, BDM shipped me a new engine. Same problem!!! Drove to Wichita and the factory guys told me that they had a problem with S&S piston fit for a while and that was my problem. New cylinders and pistons and i was on my way. 1200 miles later the problem was back. New S&S 124 solved the problem. Meanwhile, frontforks on the 03 never leaked, always leaked on the 04. After rebuilding the forks 4 times with different new parts every time, BDM shipped out a complete set of new forks. No leak now. ELECTRICAL nightmare began in 2005 costing me several tow bills to get it home, several hundred in parts and too many headaches. And we all know the solution now. BDM was always there for me until they changed their policy to not talking to owners except through a dealer. TOO many dealers know nothing about the product and only want your money. Getting answers to problems has been very frustrating. I have very mixed feelings about BDM now and that---is my 2 cents worth.

I'm sorry for all your troubles but I will tell you that there are good dealers out there and I work for one of them! I work with a knowledgeable staff and we work hard to make our customers happy. There are some dealers that give us a bad name!

That said, have you tried the Costa Mesa dealership? They are corporate owned so that should ease your mind about going thru a dealer.

Good Luck!

My story : in 2005 bought an 05 Pitbull from my friend in Saudi Arabia, brand new, 300 KM clutch slipping 3rd and 4th Grs disconnecting, called BDM (as the dealer my friend bought the bike from closed) BDM said it was a recall, sent me clutch parts, new starter, kick stand spring, and some part to fix the trani. ll work done by HD Motorcycles Saudi (great job and BDM covered the labour costs too).
2007 bike shipped to Lebanon 1200miles on the clock I get a loud bang, noise from the trani and oil leak. yes you guessed it, the shaft recall,2009 shipped the bike to Scotland, HD dealer opens the trani, sees a mess and suggests I contact BDM.
After 2 months BDM sends a New Trani to HD dealer. As I am out of the warranty period I paid for labor charges (2300 USD)
Yes my bike has only 1800 careful miles but I definitely had a ride with reliability.
I always make sure I have a good road side recovery insurance before going out on it and I am not more than 30 miles radius away from home.
I Love the bike, and BDM were really great with me in all aspects namely "Anne Dixon".
Honestly, I have started to understand and enjoy my bike more after joining this forum.

It was a Joke Junior, about 20 people from this site I ride with have known me as BB for several years.

Biker Babe is right there are some good dealer's out there and there are some Stealer's too. Got to find one or wrench it yourself!!! I prefer the second option. :2thumbs:

PS
If you dont get your money's worth here I'll give ya your change back!!!:2thumbs:

Hey Mike! There are a lot of posts (and threads) on this site both pro and con for BDM but a lot of info on how to fix a problem that BDM or the dealer WON'T do! Still, they are a great production chop (as you well know). After all, didn't you "SMOKE" our friend's Bourget in the Hills?!!

Get that BAD '04 runnin' good and let's go on a Road Trip!
