Mounting a temporary flag?

Who has mounted an American Flag on their bike? I always ride on Memorial Day, Forth of July, 9/11, etc with a temporary flag attached to the trunk of my BMW touring bike, but have been thinking about how I might mount one on the Pitbull. No sissy bar to attach it to. Thinking maybe a custom bracket off the passenger peg hole? I don't want to do anything that might damage the paint in any way, so I'm kinda stumped. Thoughts? Suggestions? Pictures of what you have done with your Big Dog?:flag:

It has been a few months, thought I'd bump this back up to see if anyone has mounted a flag on their BD.

Not sure how the Pitbull fender strut is but on my K-9 I pop out the chrome plugs in order to mount a sissy bar. If the Pitbull has those some plugs maybe you can get a mount to go off of that. Flag would be off to the one side but be clear of the fender.

Last memorial day run with ABATE I just plastic tied the flag pole to one side of my sissybaron my Ridgeback using 4 or 5 heavy duty ties. Worked fine but it was only a 2' high pole and flag.

While in Sturgis I checked with Kuryakn and a custom flag company that makes them for bikes. Turns out the common sizes are 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 inch. Unfortunately, our sissy bars / luggage racks are 11/16 of an inch. The custom company said they could fabricate the proper size bracket, but it is obvious that buying off the shelf won't work.

PA Chopper - That's a good idea. While I don't run a pillon or sissy bar, The Pitbull fender struts do have mounts for a sissy bar. Of course they are pricy - from $400-700 depending on the size. Kind of an expensive way to go for something I would only use a few times a year. I'll keep my eye on ebay for a deal. A guy could fabricate something if I had a sissy bar to pattern the mounting cleats off of. I'll investigate a bit more.

2004BC - I did something similar when I had a Yamaha Roadstar with a 2-up saddle and backrest. Ran a 4'x6' flag on a piece of PVC pipe strapped to the backrest. I didn't go very fast or far, but it was pretty cool.

Roaddawg - Good to know the off the shelf mount sizes and they don't match with the BDM sissy bar. BTW, where in MN are you? I moved from Minnetonka down here to AZ 3 years ago. Don't miss the cold and snow!

a friend of mine made one and he used the two outer licence plate holes with a piece of aluminum that fit behind the plate hard to describe but will try to post pics when i get camera back. guess he got tired of the two zip ties criss crossed on the handle bars for the little flags but it works great just need a good supply of zips

I didn't really mean to go buy a sissy bar. Just fab up a pole that fits into the mounting hole that you can thread the end and bolt into the mount. Sounds easy don't it? LOL

I moved out here from the east coast in 2004 while heading for the promise land of Arizona. Got sidetracked due to family issues, but have started back on the path of redemption for the sunshine state! Currently in White Bear Lake (twin cities area)

The wife and I are constantly in AZ. We have friends in Peoria, Anthem and Prescott. We have been looking at property/homes in the Cottonwood / Prescott area and hope to be there permanently in a few years.
