MORE OPEN PRIMARY PROBLEMS

I have had my Baker open primary on the bike now for about two weeks and still have not been able to take it for a ride. First I was having problems adjusting the clutch the bike would lunge forward when I pulled the clutch lever in and shifted to 1st from neutral. I tightened the clutch push rod futher than was recommended by the shop manual and that was the only way to get the bike to shift from neutral to 1st without lunging and cutting out. I took it round the block but it was hard to shift and find neutral. I parked it cause I had to go to work. I decided to try again today and i see a leak underneath the bike and it is transmissionn fluid. The reason I spent what I consider a lot of money for the open primary is to get away from the leaks that have plagued me for almost the entire year that I have owned the bike. It is very disheartening to see one thing after another go wrong with the bike. I know bitching and moaning is discouraged but I have tried to put a positive spin every time something went wrong.

Sorry for the long post any ideas why i have tranny fluid coming from the open primary? and why I cant adjust the clutch?

If I cant figure it out someone will get a 2007 Mastiff for $10,000

Did you reverse the crankshaft oil seal? A few people have said it needs to be done to keep oil leaking from the trans.....

I thought it was a seal on the engine sprocket that I was supposed to reverse

The seal that needs to be reversed is the motor shaft seal not the Trans. However, I did put on a new trans seal when I changed out mine to a Karata open drive. Did you clean out the oil in the valleys on your starter while you had it apart? Oil gets trapped in there and gives the look of a leak.

Did it come with the Bandit Clutch also? Its adjustment is different than the stock BD one

I cleaned out the starter and let it drain out all the old primary oil, I did not put a new trans seal cause mine is fairly new, it has been on there for less than 1000 miles, plus I am certain it is trans fluid cause i changed it per Baker's suggestion and the oil on my garage floor is clean oil.

I know it came with a new clutch pack but I am not sure if it is the Bandit clutch, and the instructions from Baker said to adjust it per the Big Dog shop Manual.

Do you actually see the leak from the transmission seal? If you changed the fluid you may have overfilled it and its coming out of the vent tube. Just a thought. It only takes 20oz of fluid

Oh, there is a How To on here on installing the Bandit Clutch so you might try its adjustment since its different than the BDM way. Worth a try anyway.

I have a completely different problem now, I put the bike on the lift clamped the front wheel and walked over to go get the straps and heard the groaning sound of the bike tipping over .
