Mobile Service work....

As some of you know, I have been tossing the idea around about doing a mobile service. It has been on my mind actually for a number of years. A lot of people will tell you to go by what your gut feeling is on something. My gut has been telling me for a long time to give it a try. So, come the first part of the new year, my first stop will be Douglas, Georgia. I'm looking to go down there and buy a new 6x12 tandem trailer right from the factory. Anyone had any experience with this place?
Going mobile means, I'll be traveling around with my truck, trailer and all my tools to perform service work out of your location. So, obviously you would have to have a garage or some secure area that I could work out of.
So, if anyone would like some service work done to their Big dog or even Harley, let me know and we can setup a day to do it. I'll be posting to the forum more details when I know exactly when I'll be in Georgia and then other states as well. If I get enough people interested that live in a certain area of the country, it will cut travel expenses.
Feel free to give suggestions on this as well. I'm all for hearing what you guys have to say about this. Doesn't mean I have to listen but respect what you all have to say nonetheless

I would think it's a good idea if you could get enough bikes to work on in each town or state. Being not only working on the dogs should help. I know 3 with BD's and many with HD's that I would spread the word. Also a free place to stay should help.I wish the best. Anyone that knows someone from the states your in could spread the word. As far as the 6x12...just was not sure if the truck I have will pull anything larger. You have a 7x14 your looking to sell?

Thought We would use it more than we do. We ride the bikes on the road trips. I'll try to post a picture of the outside later today, don't have one here at work. I bought it used and the only thing I have done to it is put new tires on two years ago. It's a tandem torsional axle trailer with drop down tailgate and side door with window.

I believe as long as you build up your reputation like it is on this site, it could work. Have to consider gas / supplies / parts vs economy affecting ppl's toy money / customer base. I met a group of kids once that traveled to bike shows in an RV and only did led's. They said it was good work, but leds are only cosmetic. I dont know how many ppl are willing to let a guy work on the mechanical parts then pack up roll off the next day. Follow your gut and good things happen though.

Looks nice. Do you have specs for it? Weight or trailer, max weight it will hold?
Electric brakes on all 4?
You can PM me if you want. Not sure what your looking to get out of it and would hate to insult you with an offer, but a new 6x12 loaded I can get brand new for $2550.

As far as packing up and leaving the next day and to put trust in that, your right, it is a lot of trust...but I can tell you, I back up my work 100% and even if it meant having to go back and fix the problem, I would.
I'm not looking to get rich at this (but there will be a price to pay for the quality work) Just looking to continue doing what I love doing, and that is working on the BDM's, customs, and H-D's.
But if I stay here in NY state, most likely I will have to move onto other things. Just not enough work here, especially this time of year.

You might consider getting a bigger truck and larger trailer so that you have the option of working in your own trailer with your equipment and tools already set up.
Of course that would mean more upfront investment which might not be doable but would make things easier.

On a side note, I have a 2002 Mastiff with a Jims 5 speed tyranny and would like a taller top gear. What would it cost me to get an overdrive 5th or convert to a 6 speed? I completely respect your experience and judgment on this.

Thank you! Rates I have to figure out based on some obvious expenses, like fuel and housing. Not sure how US customs will be with bringing the trailer back across with all the tools. From what I'm told, they can be a real headache to deal with. But, I'm up for it if you are What is it like 6hrs from me?

Jims transmissions are made with Baker inner parts. So a Baker 6 speed conversion would take the place of the 5spd....I believe they are around $2500
