Missing parts please help!

Well in the last 24 hrs I put 300+ miles on the dawg. While riding this afternoon my buddy noticed my side cover was moving around a decent amount. Well we pulled over and I noticed that the back bracket/gromet was crack (not yet broke) So I figured that I would just tighten the front ones to make sure it could make it home then I would see what I could do, WRONG. Somewhere on the trip back from Hooters in Texarkana my buddy had to dodge the fly debris from my scoot. I guess the back one broke free and caused the front to break also. I told you all of this to ask this, WHAT CAN I DO? Can I contact BDM and will they warranty this? I know they were replacing broken ones, but mine is somewhere along I-30. All I have is the one broken piece on the back as you can see from the photos. Should I contact the dealer or BDM directly (bike is an 08 with 4k on it). Want my dawg back together is all, would like BDM to warranty it but if not hell I'll just buy the damn thing if it get to me sooner! Like my baby to be complete, looks funny without it there! I'm a stickler for detail when it comes to certain things. Thanks for the help ladies and gentlemen:2thumbs:

I would keep the broken piece you have and take it to your dealer. My side cover broke where the bolt goes through. I'm in Canada and there isn't any dealers here. I sent my cover to the dealer and they sent it to the factory. They sent me back 2 brand new painted covers. It took about 4 weeks because it was right at Christmas time. My 07 K9 is almost the same color as your bike. Good luck.

Should be covered by BDM. BDM has a recall for the side covers. Dealer install a kit with cromets and pins in mine.

yeah...the dealer also did the same recall on mine...just like Mick;s....grommet with pins...but when they did my scoot last summer...thats when the Tec told me I already have a crack in mine... I rode the rest of summer...so now I am having the dealer find out if I can send them to Big Dog..or if they have to...being that my scoot is up for winter....yep that would be covered under warranty..

Thanks everybody, I kinda figured that it should be under warranty but didnt know if they would since all i have is a little piece left of the one side. Talked to the HD shop in BR and was told send what I have and the other side so they can match the paint and should be all good. Have to say except for needing to be patient at times (which I am very short with) the HD shop and BDM has come through everytime , just means in a few years when I buy another I'm sure it will be another dawg!

Both of mine are broken too on my 07' K9....Called BD on Friday....no return phone call. Tried a dealer....they said there was not a recall on that :bang: Tried another dealer...no return call :bang: Might try to start doing it myself!!
Will try BD again Monday!!

To get warranty on the covers, you have to go through a dealer so they can contact BDM. There is a recall on the grommets that hold the covers on. If the covers are broken because of the original pins, BDM will warranty them. You have to send your cover to the dealer and they will send it in. You should get new covers painted to your bike's spec's.

Yep, I sent mine to the dealer, well what was left, they shipped them off and about a month later I got two new ones in .

Hate to send mine in....I have after market paint....don't wont to put in another $6-700 's to get the covers painted...and have them break again. Does anyone know if we can just but the grommits ourselves?? mine have dry rotted and just turn ...not tighten!!!:bang::bang:

Just remember, I was on harley's in the late 70's when they really sucked. Be patient and maybe BDM will own up and take care of us and their "Shitty" parts. Willie G did it. Come on BDM , help us help you
