Missing on one cyclinder/adjustment screw

Hey fellas and Ladies out there, While riding back from FL this weekend for some reason I started to develop this hic up at about 75 mph, almost like it was starving for fuel. I had the bike dyno'd about 1000 miles ago with everything running great. Well then it go worse, I stop for fuel about half way home and 30 miles or so later if I was above 75 it was like the front cylinder wasnt hitting at all! I could pull the clutch in and work the throttle a little and back up in running for another few miles. So I dropped down to 70 mph was able to cruise at this speed for about 30-40 miles and it started doing the same thing. Pulled off the interstate and it died at the light trying to turn into the gas station, started right back up with no problems. Let the bike cool and pulled the plugs, everything looked fine. Got back on the road and 20-30 miles later same thing. I was able to start out cruising at 75-80 then it was down to where it did not seem to matter what gear/speed I was in/at.
By this time I was close enough to call someone to pick me and the bike up and ended up trailering it the rest of the way home.

My question is when they drilled my baffles out they did not rejet my carb they had enough adjustment and the dyno was almost perfect for air/fuel mix, so could this have changed over a 1000 miles later? Or shouldn't I have see something a lot sooner than now? Like 300-400 miles Not 1000+? Or does it sound like I have some other type of problem? The adjustment screw is in the same place unless it made a complete 180 or 360 turn without me knowing it.

Thanks for the help and the weekend ride was great cept for a little bit of rain and then the last 100 miles of the ride home.

the screw is for idle only, no factor here.
you could have swaped the spark plugs front to back and see if it changed cyls.
first buy a new set of plugs ,and test drive,
all so could be tank vent!

Drilling out the baffles may require a change in the intermediate jet. The misture screw setting will tell the story. Out more than 2 turns, go up one size on the intermediate. Out less than 1 turn, go down 1 size. Intermediate jet controls fuel to the idle mixture screw and transfer ports in the throat of the venturi.

If you're loosing the front cylinder, make sure you don't have any loose connections (coil, plug wires, etc.), check the ignition module to verify the blue and yellow leds(front and rear ignition triggers) are flashing.

Sounds like fuel delivery to me. Lot's of junk in fuel today along with no fuel filter. Your pet cock screen needs checked along with your carb. You can pull the bowl plug with a wrench and see if you have a debris problem. This has absolutely nothing to do with baffles or jetting after tha many miles. Check all your connections especially in your battery box.

i agree with Vegas in that you wouldn't expect a mixture issue all of a sudden after 1000 miles - something else must be going on

Well I can say that I feel completely stupid, pulled the fuel line to check to see for trash, nothing. While re-attaching the line I noticed a wire hanging down from my coil, yep one of the small wires had broken and was barely hanging on. Guess that makes sense why it would run part of the time and then none of the time, bad connection. Oh well live and learn I guess.

Next time you're in the dealership, make sure you have them check to spark plug wiring recall. I bought my 2008 K-9 in October 2007 and had an ignition failure on the rear cylinder at 500 miles. Turned out the ignition coil had failed and also discovered the spark plug wires were rubbing against the cylinder head fin. One was rubbed so bad it could have shorted out and could have contributed to the problem, but the mechanic wasn't totally sure if it did. Anyway, they did the wiring recall and replaced/rerouted the wires and also installed tie wraps to keep the wiring from contacting the cylinder head fins. They may also have done other ignition coil wiring modifications that could have solved the problem you encountered. Hope you're fixed for good.
