Ok I finally got the nerve to do some of my own wrenching and took out the tappet plug only to discover there is no tappet screen in there.I have about 10k miles on it already so I am thinkin WTF. I guess you dont have to have one since I did 10k miles without one but should I put one in or just leave a fine runnin doggie alone?

I'd put one in,with the little spring that goes over it.Clean it every time you do an oil change.

Not to insult anyone here but you are looking in the correct hole/plug right?

Check this. One sunny Saturday one day before the spring rally in Myrtle Beach I decided to check my tappet screen for the heck of it. It came out stripped. I was like WTF. I got lucky and found a bottom tap, cleaned the threads and it was good to go. I put a small cloth down in the hole to catch the shavings and then sucked them out with a needle tip on the shop vac. I felt like the OCC guys on tv trying to get their rig ready before an unveiling. I got it back together the day of leaving to go down to the rally. Talk about nerve racking.

One VERY important thing to think about is which way the tappet screen goes in. SS manual clearly states that IF you put the tappet screen in backwards you can blow your motor up. Even John at Mancusos got big eyes when he explained it to me.

I just bought my K9, 06 4,000 miles on it so I pulled my tappet plug. It was stripped also. I was ticked. I didn't retap it, I was afraid to. Any ideas on what I should do?

If you gotta re-tap it you are gonna have to pull the cam cover and make sure you clean out the shavings real good!

When in doubt always tap that

Same thing happened to me when I pulled the plug to clean - no screen . I did some checking in the S&S 117 manual and noticed that there is a hi press, hi vol pump that was also used and it does not use a screen.
