Im thinking about going to the HSR 45mm Mikuni, just wondering if ANYONE else is running this carb? I know a TON of guys like the xxx, but I thought I would be different...and always had good luck with Mikunis in the past....

47.6, which is big - good for top end power but not necessarily so for low end - having said that I get on fine with mine

LOL

Yeah, the larger the hole, the less air speed through it at low rpms. REALLY good at top end power because it doesn't restrict air...It's just harder to jet the low end.

Well, I didn't get to ride it much before the tranny took a shit; however, after working on it, it came to life.

I let stroker's bolt it on because I didn't want to mess with getting a new throttle cable etc. and, after the bike being down for almost 5mos, I wanted to ride it immediately.

Anyway, when I got the bike home ( it barely made it ) the carb was really messed up. It was coughing through the carb, I usually got 125mi before I hit reserve but, it was running out at 65mi. LOL

The idiot thought it was running lean and even drilled out the idle jets.

I got a hold of Tom Engle after talking to Alhall and, Tom sent me an exhaust jet (to go in the bottom of the float bowl ), two pump jets and, two idle jets and, I replaced them all and tuned the idle mixture, screwed in the air bypass valves and, It started pulling tree stumps. LOL

No more flat spots, quick ( instant ) response.... pulls harder than it EVER has etc.

I'm still running a bit rich in the idle circuit but, it's fine tuning at this point. Need to check out main jetting now.

In fact, the main jets kick in about 2700rpms and, I broke my mainshaft in the tranny when testing out the carb. LOL I was starting at 2500rpms and rolling on the throttle to 3000 and doing all over again when my tranny broke. lol

I guess it was working good at the time. haha

very nice - hope you get it back soon - looks like you're going to go from no bikes to 3 bikes pretty quickly!

Yeah, I've got a bagger in the garage right now but, I'm not riding it. It's sold so, I'm leaving it alone.

So, we're looking for Lynn a bike right now. That sporty got traded for another bike before I got in touch with the guy selling it. We will find her one soon.

I'll be picking up the road king next friday and, hopefully, I'll get to see Ray on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

I run a Makuni 45 on my 103 stroker and have run them on my Buells, Will be putting one one my Mastiff soon. The all around performance can't be beat, They are very responsive at all rpms.
Down side is some don't like the knocking ( for less of a better term ) noise they make , especially with a free breathing air cleaner.

:whoop:  I put a 45 HSR on the 05 chopper, and it made a world of difference. IMO that is the easiest tunable and best performing carb out there. Sure it costs a little more, but in the long run, Well worth the money. Very responsive!
