I have ordered my tires from Dennis Kirk since after weeks of researching who has the best deal. nothing came close to dennis kirk. these were my price on 9/19/11 - Metzler ME880 Marathon XXL/R 300/35VR-18...$299.99 (for those 300mm rear) and Metzler ME880 Marathon/F MH90-21/TL...$85.99. Free shipping and 10 bucks tire surcharge which brings my total of $395.98. I hope the price is still the same. Good luck!!!:2thumbs:

I found the Metz. 300 tire for $299 on the web with free shipping to my door, my buddy (Postman)showed the local Suzuki dealer the price, and they gave us the tire out-the-door for $312. Just an idea that helps the local shop make a sale if they are willing to work with you on the price.

Just got my 300 Metzeler 880 Marathon in for my 06 K9. I have not put it on yet, but have read reviews where it does not clear the belt. I have 8,000 miles on my Avon Venom and decided to spend the extra money for the Metzeler because I ride my bike back and forth between Ft Campbell and Ft Knox. I felt the extra need for the aggressive tread. Has any one had problems with the metzeler not clearing the belt. The Venoms barely clear the belt as it is. I got some 60 grit sand paper in case it is need.
Any help one might provide will help my piece of mind. I found the Metzeler 300 for $285 at Americanmototire.com

Whats the build date on your tire you just got?

I was just looking at my tires over the weekend they are starting to weather on the sidewalls. The are the original venoms with plenty of tread left original owner didn't ride much, just thinking it might be smart to replace soon was hoping to make it through this year and replace in the winter just not sure yet. I have owned the dog just over a year and have already put on more miles than he did in the 6 yrs he owned it.

Eric, if you have the original factory tire on your bike, it is at least 8 years old and that is just plain NOT SAFE! Replace that tire before you wish you had!!! I sure wish Avon still made the Venom tires in the 300 but they have no intention of bringing it back for the 300 guys. I will be putting my second rear tire on for this year, just over 3500 miles on the Metzeler I put on in March and it is worn out.

We have Avon or Avon and the bargin basement price of $850 plus fitting and disposal.

And we live in the "lucky country" apparently.

I went to a local motorcycle shop in town and told them that I wanted the Metzeler 300/35/18. I told them I would not pay more than 300.00 for the tire and if they could make that happen, I would take it.

He made it happen and now I am a regular customer.

I just put a metz on my 08 k9. It rubs a little. I just ran it. The belt has skimmed down the tire a little, but no real wear on tire or belt. Just make sure its lined up straight and when lifted it turns straight without snagging the belt.

Avon vs. Metzeler; - - - Vive` La Differance`

I have used both brands of tire on my K-9. The only difference being the Metzelers` 300mm. rear tire is wider than Avon`s Cobra or even their old Venom. I have no idea why or what advantage could be had in the discrepancy. Metzeler does have a 280mm. size to fit any bikes with clearance issues. In my experience both brands served me well.
To the members who are using tires two, three, or even up to six years old, you are rolling the dice, IMHO. The rubber compounds that make up a bike tire are of a very different type than the ones used in an automobile tire. I.E. there are far less UV inhibitors and/or tread hardeners.
Motorcycle tires are meant to run one season, or maybe two. If you live in a temperate
(mild) climate zone then maybe you are O.K. running more than one year, but only one, IMHO.

I think Metzler came out with another tire and Big Dogs were mentioned about the rubbing issue. I belive it was the ME 880 Marathon XXL. I think there was a thread on here about it... :D :2thumbs:

:D the metzeler motor cycle tire would sometimes get squirrelly when ya whack it on roads that were crowned. I ended up switching on the Hoss to a car tire wheel and a Sumitomo 255-35 -18. it cured my tire wear problems,, left a lot better smokey rolling burnout stripe too.
with the Chopper it has had no issues but the chopper is more of a hooker than a smoker,,, unless ya hit it hard slow speed.
