After reading these posts, I'm glad now that I have the Avon 72; I almost considered buying a Metzler as a replacement when these wear out......but.........not........now. Good experiencial information!

I had a Metzeler too, didn’t like how it wore, and it did start showing cracks on the sidewall.... and no, it wasn’t old, it had pretty new date. Since then I have used Avon, curious about Shinko though

That’s what I’m running now, a Shinko. I had no luck with Avon or Metz

I don't get a choice, Metz or Metz.
I sand my tyre every time to clear the belt, no biggy, far better than cranking the tyre that is just crazy.
I will be ready for 2 new new hoops by the end of winter (our riding time) will wait and see- Avons may becoming back.

I have the 300mm Avon rear tire on my 2006 BDK9Custom; on a previous bike, it had a 200mm tire and it had a better cornering lean.
It "feels" like the 300mm on this K9 is not as rounded as the other tire. I have to really push to lean the bike in turns, as if the shoulder on the Avon tire is prohibiting that lean in a normal turning.
Is this a form factor on all 300mm tires? or, can anyone tell me if the Metzler tire is better suited for cornering?
Are there any other tire manufacturers that make a more "rounded" type of tire suited for the BD?
thank you for your help.......

I used a hand held disc grinder to carefully cut about 1/8 or so on the belt side to make the metzlers avoid the belt on my 07 k-9. hate to be grinding a tire that my life depends on but had some really poor results form the older avons. at the first sign of a crack, any tire comes off. sounds like avon may be doing better? maybe try one next time.

I just used a vibrating type sander to sand the edge off my tire last night. I went with the Shinko front and rear. Took about ten minutes with the bike in the air which allowed me to spin the tire while I sanded. I didn't have to take much off.
