Metzeler 300 tire Facts

kind of same subject...at bbb this weekend and tried to find a 300 tire for a buddys mastiff...found the avon tire vendor and asked if he had a 300 he told us he didnt and that avon was getting out of the big tire buisness .

Its about time, cause they can't make 300 that will stay together.:down:

Has anyone ever seen a Metz 280 in place of a Avon 300. From what I've been told that you can't tell the differences. I'm thinking of going with the 280.

Bikers Dream in Atlanta says the 280 Metz is the same as a 300 Avon and they install Metz 280's all the time. They say you can't tell the difference. However, Gateway told me a 280 will show more of the edge on the rim and look funky. I personally have not seen a mounted 280 so I can't say for sure.

The Metzeler 280 is a 35
Gateway mounted a new Metzeler 300 on my '09 yesterday. No rubbing and I have the same amount of clearance as i did with the original Avon.

I always ran the 300 Avon but just changed to the 300 Metzeler and I have a credit card space between the tire and belt on my 2007 Mastiff put about 200 miles on so fare with no signs of rubbing.

I cut a sidewall notch out of Bro2's old 300 Metzeler to check the sidewall ridge thickness and found that there was 7/16" of rubber over the cord. We shaved off some of the sidewall ridge untill it was about a 3/16" wide flat area with a belt sander. The bike was on the lift and center jack running in 1st gear. This gave us plenty of gap 1/8" or so. I have no problem doing this. We run our belts a bit looser so wheel bearings and others to survive longer and wanted the rear tire correctly aligned to reduce tire wear. No hard belt rubbing before but none at all now.
