Metric Speedo

All I have a 2005 Pitbull in the UK that I am planning to ship with me to Perth Australia. I will need to change the speedo to Metric (Km/hr)or put another speedo that displays metric speed on the bike.

My question is this :
What is the most suitable metric speedo I can install, where can I buy it from , and where do I get the metric speed signal from . (I have Thunderheart Ignition system installed .)

Mad Dog, I most probably will go ahead with this group buy, just a quick one, can I have the speed signal go to both speedos without affecting the reading?

If you mean can you have both speedometers connected at the same time I am not sure. You could call support at Dakota. 1-800-593-4160
They might be able to answer you're question. Is there a reason for this?

Basically I have the Speedo on the Pitbull in the Tank so I want to keep it there and functional and put an external one in KM/hr. Every 3 yrs this bike moves around the world with me so I do not want to worry about this everytime.

Ok, I understand. The Dakota uses the original speedo bucket so you will need one of them and a way to mount it. As to can you split the signal that question is best put to Dakota. If you like I can call them Monday morning when they open.

Yes but I am not sure if the speedo head is the same on a tank mount. Do you know?

Reading through the Dacota Speedo, you have only one chance to set the KM/hr or m/hr in the first 100 miles only.

Yeah, I didn't notice his avatar I see his speedo is tank mounted. I believe his speedo is larger than ours mounted to the bars. Maybe one of the other members with an earlier model scoot can answer that one...

The readout will switch back and forth for the odometer also when you push the button. I'm just not sure if the speedo is the same as the bar mounted units. If it is you're all set. Remove the old drop in the Dakota and ride. Maybe someone else might help out with this question.

FYI, your stock speedo can be adjusted to read Km. The procedure is in the service manual.

Ray, thats a killer, thanks a lot for this. I will have a look and post the findings
I would look it up for you but I'm down here in Mexico and my manual is back in the US but the procedure is on here somewhere.

Ok found it, attached is the way to do it. Basically hold down the button on the speedo when the ignition is off and keep on holding it and switch on the ignition.
Magnificant, that saved me 300 USD. Thanks again Ray, enjoy your time in Mexico, wish you safe return.
