Metal polish on paint, any harm?

Since I typically wash and wash the painted parts first and then I take to polishing the chrome, every now and then if I see a missed smudge on the paint I'll use the metal polish and rag in hand to work it off.
Is there any harm in using a small amount of metal polish on the painted parts?

Im gonna say its not advisable. Metal polish contains some heavy abrasives and ingredients that are prolly not good for paint. Stick with a true paint polish/wax.

Would you recommend rubbing compound?

Mequiars wax or any kind automotive paint wax or rubbing compound be ok too
