metal in the drain pan

Energy One
Remove the oil filter on a 2002 bulldog seen a bunch of small aluminum pieces like sand unknown miles somebody changed the speedometer and handlebars years ago motor still runs good but I'd imagine the bearing or something went anybody think I got to go as far as splitting the cases I suppose you won't know that you take it apart

No I've owned it for 5 years I change oil every 3000 miles I had it into a shop they put a new 600 cam in it which it already had in it but when I got it back it had wet sumped over the winter leaked out oil he never checked it had one quart he drove it around for a bit I brought it home heard some ticking check the oil nothing in the tank hardly drained it out one quart I put oil in it wrote it for a hundred miles drain the filter and now there's metal in there

Make sure you used an evo oil filter. Marky-Marc has a thread somewhere about what a twin cam filter will do to an evo. It's just like you said, a bunch of metal flakes that look like sand.

10-4 this is positively an evolution filter who knows this motor might have a lot of miles on it I'm going to finally shit in the bed I just wondering how far it has to be taken down to be rebuilt I stuck more money into it than I paid for it but that's nothing new there amongst the big dog brother gang

I agree with Shannon. Quite possibly the cam wearing in.

the twin cam filter is finer than the evo and the evo oil pump is low pressure and doesn't return all the oil to the tank.
If that oil goes low again like that-- change the filter.
I learned this the hard way years ago. Went into a shop, bought a filter (box had right part no) but in side was apparently a TC filter -- can't see the difference visually from outside. Its one of the reasons I went to a K&P permenant filter on the one K-9 and will put a Sifton (cheaper version) on te newer K-9.
Pop filter off, fluch metal mesh using brake clean, let dry and re-install. Saves money eventually (depends on how many oil changes you do a year.
I was averaging 2-4 depending on haw far i pushed the synthetic oil. $10/filter adds up over the years.

You need to pull the oil pump tappet screen and clean it out too it will hold trash as well. The crank breather holds trash as well I had a lift roller bearing fail and had nice shiny pieces in the motor. Haven't looked at the S&S motor closely but my old Harley's had a case drain.

I pulled the tap it screen there was nothing on it I think the motor just needs to get rebuilt I just changed the filter it's got bronze or copper colored metal in it who knows how many miles are on it she's just going to need to get rebuilt I believe I won't drive it no more to wreck it or anything it's got good compression 185 with throttle open it don't smoke it don't burn any oil I just think it's got Parts wearing out S&S Motors are super spendy I'm going to see if this one can't be rebuilt instead of buying a new S&S motor that I heard the new Altimas are better than they used to be but I don't know about that either

I'm an Ultima fan. Used/sold a lot of them, with very few to no problems. I did a lot of testing for Ultima (Mid-West M/C sales), when they first came out with the Ultima program. I have NO issue with S&S engines either. I sell them, and modify a lot of them also.

I got a D&D pipe that came off of 107 American Iron Horse works very well on my SMS 107 but I wonder if it's too small of a baffle for that 120 Altima motor it has the louvered baffle I wonder if it would hurt it

I agree with John, Ultima has came a long way with proven products. I have installed Ultima motors and transmissions on these bikes with no issues. I have 2 of my bikes with Ultimas and no issues to this date.. if I loose one my S&S motors I'm going to Ultima...also basically 1/4 of the price if you do the math
