Melted battery terminal question?

So I thought I would check under the seat and found the negative battery connections were a little loose but I was surprised that the negative post on the battery was like half melted -- it looked just like melted solder. I thought I read a thread on here that this is what happens when you have a loose connection (creates the high heat). This is true isn't it? I just want to make sure why it melted. Thanx bunch.

No coincidence there, that's what solder consist of mostly. My battery terminal was loose when my bike was delivered and I fried my terminal completely a few days after I got it. It never occured to me that I'd have to recheck all their prep work like that. Now I keep a 10mm handy and make it part of my walkaround checklist.

Loose connection probably. If you are having problems with the connection coming loose alot then start the bike up with the seat removed and watch the battery. If it is flopping around then the connection don't have a chance to stay tight. If this is the case then put some foam in around the battery and maybe a thin scrap of wood or some other non-conductor of electricity under the rubber battery strap.

Every since I had my issue I check them reguarly but never once found them loose. The Wolf has a top bracket that screws down over the top to keep it really firmly in place, the dealer just didn't tighten them up in the first place it seems.

Maybe you can take it back to the dealer for a new battery then since it's their fault in the first place! After buying the most expensive Big dog out there I would want it perfect!

Me? Absolutely. I had the dealer arrange for me to pick up a new replacement battery locally that day. There was no way in hell I was going to pay for it out of MY pocket. Of course it didn't really matter because I went and bought a new Braille battery anyway to replace the weakass Interstate crap it came with.

The only problem is, today my starter took a dump and left me stranded. I had been having an occasional problem with it since that battery issue (has just spun and never engaged a few times) and today was the last straw I guess. Needless to say it's going to another dealer and not the one who started the whole mess in the first place. The tow alone is going to be $225 but luckily it sounds like Big Dog is going to reimburse the dealer entirely.

So now the starter is acting up because of the battery, sorry to hear that I guess one trouble leads to the next. Your bike is brand spanking new! What the hells up with that? Hope thats the last of your troubles. Good luck!

I did the same thing the first week I had my Dog. Nice having a family member who owns the bike shop. He swapped out the battery and sent it back. Now I keep a 10mm wrench in my tool kit too. I check it every week.

Thanx to all the responses. I guess I need to check if the battery is a flopping.

The same thing happened to me, it made the starter hang up after i started the engine. I was not able to tell if it was a loose wire or if the seat metal touched the terminal. well i bought a new battery and its been running fine, but it stled out on me the other day while running around 55 mph. I need to have it checked.
