Talked to the BD dealer here and was told that rebuilding the mc only works about 50% of the time and it is not the best way to go. So do I need the entire right hand switch and brake lever assembly?

the piston, plunger and spring should be cheap enough to do 100 times before you got to the price of the assembly.

just clean everything with comp air, fresh fluid, air, fluid, air.

I'd sure as hell try it first. The only explanation for it not working is a worn bore.

BD's rebuild kit comes with a nice instruction sheet. I just did mine, worst part was the fucking retaining clip! After that, walk in the park

sounds like you've decided to rebuild it and I agree with the rest here.

I would also think about a new dealership or talk to someone else there. Going strictly by what you said, I don't know why they would say that except to sell you a much more expensive part.:job:
