Mapping site or software

Ok it's 2008 time to start planning the 2008 rides. Anyone use a specific site or software to plane your routes, milage, etc. I personally have used the HOG site which is slow and a difficult to zoom to plan route specifically. http://rideplanner.members.hog.com/en/RidePlannerMainHOG.jsp

I have alos played with Google and Yahoo maps in an attempt to plan some routes, get milage from point a to point b. Problem with these is ther is no good way to save your routes. Anyone got anything better??

I use Microsoft Streets and Maps. Works good for me and I don't have anything to compare it to other than Mapquest and online sources.
The Microsoft program works great for the price. Does great things like look up construction, rates your driving style and does fuel cost and time schedules.

I agree with RAY,,, Microsoft Street & Trips,, is the only way to go... you can get it,, with a GPS,,, you don't have to be online to use it.

You can add as many stops as you like,, , or your driving speed.... or start/end times....
I like it,, since you can print it to PDFs,, and share with others. Or,, use it on your PDA.

Great value for the money,,, i just got the 2008 version,, for $29 at Costco. :2thumbs:

I picked up a Garmin Quest 2 (same one Harley sells at 2X the price) that can work off its own battery or connected to a 12 volt source. I can program the entire trip and it will show the stops, distances and times - pretty cool. I travel often for work and I can't count the times it has saved me from getting lost. I also take along an atlas just in case when on the dog. I do like Microsoft Streets & Trips but carrying a laptop is not for me - google earth is also quite good but again carrying pages of directions and trying to remember them so I don't have to stop and look is a pain. I say go for the technology - you can get cell phones with a built-in GPS.

hey SLOW,, i've got a Gramin,, and the bitch argues with me,, and tries to keep me off the highways all the time. Seems like, it has me,, going down the cowpaths,, on every trip. Finally,, i gave up... shut-it off,, and did it Old School. Drive fast,,, stop,, turn around,, Drive Fast somemore.
Anyway, i've never tried the Street & Trips, in a PDA,, but some people, have told me, that it works, really sweet. Another friend of mine, has the GPS cell phone,, and in fact,, he uses it as his GOLF caddie also. That works awesome. :2thumbs:

:hi: I am a Man.
And I do not need any map program nor a navigational device to get me anywhere.
When this becomes an issue, then YOU lead.

Pre trip planning is the answer.

Yeah, KnotSo - I do remember a time or two when you were reluctant to lead - but I will add, just for the benefit of the newby readers, that when KnotSo DOES take point, you better be ready to ROLL - like he sez, he has that NEED for SPEAD! :D :whoop:

I use MS Map and Delorme Street Atlas for pre-planning and then my BB with Telnav for GPS features.

I tend to like the Delorme better than MS-though both are good!
