Just bought a 2009 pitbull. Smooth ride. Malfunction light turned on after 300 miles. Looked at all the wiring and nothing was loose. Anybody have any suggestions.

The ECU supplies an input to the "check engine
light" LED on the tachometer ring and is used to
announce a sensor failure or malfunction.

LIMP-IN MODE
If a sensor fails during operation of the bike, the
ECU automatically goes to a default value for the
failed sensor, allowing the bike enough power to
run and get off the road.
The "check engine" light will activate, and the
bike will go into this mode immediately.
Acceleration will not be possible.

On EFI-equipped motorcycles, the Check Engine
light will activate until the RUN button is pressed.
The Fuel light will activate in low fuel conditions.

Search the Technical/EFI section for a place to start.

There is a free program from S&S called ProTune2 that you can use with a DB9 serial port com cable to read ECM DTC's and gain insight to what may be the problem. Not sure but you may need to purchase the DB9 right angle com cable from S&S in-order to com to the ECM. It might be special wired. S&S claims a standard cable could damage the ECM but I think a few here have used them without any problems.
