Lucas Oil Treatment

I've seen a few threads that some of you are using Lucas products. I just put some Lucas Oil Treatment in my motor oil and what a difference. I put some in the transmission and can't tell yet if that will make a difference. My question is has anyone used the Lucas Oil Treatment in the primary? And what results did you have. Thanks. :2thumbs: :D

One of my riding partners put Lucas oil treatment in the primary of his Harley Fat boy. He says it quieted down the noise coming from it and it shifts better. NOW, I would check further on this before putting it in your BDM primary because the cltuch plates may be different in our clutches than his and you don't want a slipping issue. I'm pretty sure it's ok to use but better safe than sorry.

I highly recommend against it! The primary chain and a few bearings are what require the lube not the clutch plates. Ducatti runs a dry clutch and so do all open primary drive bikes. Don't run anything that is NOT for Primary drive wet clutch applications, this includes Lucas Oil Treatment. With Lucas, I would think the clutch plates would have a harder time seperating to disengage when you pull the clutch lever.

If anything, the primary oil is to help cool and clean the debris from the plates not stick it to them.

Bandit recommends Amsoil Severe Gear lube in the primary with their clutch so that more oil gets on the plates and then at higher rpm's it slings off and keeps them clean of debris.

BigDogBro, I can't disagree with you. What you say is correct mechanicaly. Although it does stae on the Lucas bottle that it is for use in Harley Davidson Motorcycles specifically and that it can be used in the tranny and the primary. But concur with you on the principal you stated. Hmmmm....if it would hurt the clutch I wonder why Lucas would risk the issues and problems by stating it is for the primary of Harley's right on there bottle. That's intresting for sure. When in doubt, often not going there is best i've found.

Different clutch plates that are made out of different material require different oils. Bandit aslo told me that I could run some high quality Auto Transmission fluid if I could not find the Severe Gear locally. They just told me NOT to run Primary Fluid it the primary with their (Bandit) Clutch.

I've seen other bikes use GM ATF in the wet clutch primary as well. I was going to mention it in my above post, but didn't. It makes more sense than going to a heavier/higher viscosity lube. It works great in the automatic transmissions with bearings and clutch plates. Not that I would use it either. Stick with what BDM says to use.

Put some Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer in the engine oil (10 ounces). I feel it will be more benificial there than in the primary. Lucas has this additive for both regular and synthetic oils, so use the correct one for your oil. Lucas claims you can use their regular with synthetic oils - your call!

Thanks for the info ... you guys are great for information. That's why I asked before I was to put the Lucas Oil Treatment in my primary ... It works great in the motor oil. I've noticed that it runs cooler. Thanks again. :2thumbs: :flag:

I had to comment on this thread about my experience with Lucas products. Although I've never used any of their products for motorcycles I have used their Hub Oil, Fuel Treatment and Oil Additive for big trucks. Although I can't prove it was the Lucas for sure that caused my engine damage. I started running Lucas oil additive as directed in my KW when bought new after the first oil change. I put 2 gallons of Lucas in with every oil change as directed on the back of the jug. 20% Lucas and also pulled oil samples as I changed the oil every 15000 miles. This Truck has always got the best of everything. Always Cat filters and so on. Up in Iowa one winter -5 degrees I spun a #6 rod at 467000 miles. That cost me 3 weeks off work and $23000 to put a new motor in. I really shy away from Magic potions called oil additives now. There is a lot of research that gos into oil and the base stock along with the additive package they put in is fine. I now run a FS-2500 bypass filter "which is a 2 micron filter" and do oil analysis. I now have over 80000 miles on this oil change and everything is good. The oil is fine it doesn't wear out unless you deplete the additive package and you won't do that in between routine oil changes in a bike. Spend your money in better filtration. Keeping your oil clean is where it's at. Anyway sorry to hijack the thread with diesel talk but that's my experience with Lucas. And it's well documented.

I run the Filtration Solutions FS-2500 they are in Olathe KS. 888-440-9056. They have a website also. Sorry I don't know how to do the link thing with the iPhone. Go look at the site there is plenty of info there. Flow rate is pretty high with these filters while the microns it catches is low. Filters cost around $26 each and it only displaces 2 quarts of oil on the big rig. The $800 or so for the system paid me back in less than 6 months. OPS has a nice one also. You can find them on the web too I'm sure. I think they even have a spin on now with no canister.

I think I put Lucas oil treament in my scooter when I changed the oil, right after I got it. It has always done the job in everything else, including the lawn mower. I have not put in my diesel truck in the oil.
