Low beams don't work

I started the bike up today and noticed the high beam indicator is on, pressing the low beam button just makes the indicator flash along with the Headlight. Took the plug apart from Ehc to switch along with the ehc plug and cleaned it and put dielectric grease in place. Could the bulb itself be bad? Otherwise the switch could possibly be open slightly on the high beam feed?

The headlight assemy is the only thing I haven't had apart on this bike! I take it this is a common sign of a bad element in the bulb?

The EHC automatically switches to high beam if it senses the low beam is not drawing any current. It can be caused by the low beam filament in the bulb is burnt out, the H4 bulb socket is melted and is bad or the low beam wire to the EHC is an open circuit.

Remove the headlight bucket trim ring set screws and unscrew the trim ring, then unscrew the retaining ring for the headlight to gain access to the bulb.

Thank goodness this was an easy fix and don't worry about asking. Ask away. Sometimes its hard for one to see the forest from the trees and this forum is awesome for help to keep our Dogs running.

Hi guys, got the same EXACT problem. took the headlight bucket apart first because of reading this post. The bulb, elements, and plug look great. Put the assembly back together(overtightened the allen set on the beauty ring causing it to go crooked and strip in the process...grrr) Red light on EHC flickers when trying to go to low beams as does the blue high beam indicator on the speedo and the high beam itself. Any other fixes? thanks much..

I think it's a #4-40 x 1/8" setscrew.

You can tap it out to a #5-40 x 1/8" screw. Buy a thread tap and new larger setscrews from McMaster Carr. Hardware stores normally won't carry a 5-40 setscrew. Start the #5-40 tap to follow in the orginal #4-40 pitch threads.

Tap...McMaster-Carr
Setscrew...McMaster-Carr
