loud rokers

I just wanted to ask if you guys that have done a lot of mods to your motor especially the one that increases the compression have really loud roller rockers. Mine are so loud after the motor warms up, it sounds like something is wrong with the bike. I have removed the vent tube, had new performance lifters and pushrods installed. and still the sound is louder than my exhaust and I installed the Big City thunder baffels. I have taken it to a couple of different mechanics and they say that is just roller rocker sound, but I have never heard anybody elses bike have such loud rocker sound. Granted I haven't come across a lot of built evo motors, but i have heard enough to know that none of the ones I heard had such loud rockers. my bike runs great and the performance is just awsome, but this sound is so loud i don't enjoy riding it anymore, especially when people keep asking is it supposed to sound like that. I have always wanted a Big Dog Mastiff, but now I'm ready to sell it because I just can't get rid of the extremely loud roller rocker sound. Can someone give me some insight on how to fix this before I just sell it, because I really like the bike and want to keep, but I want keep a bike I can't fix or don't enjoy riding and I love to ride. I ride pretty much rear around. thanks for the any help you can give me.

That just seems to be the way it is for a high compression S&S motor. Check my sig for my upgrades. Lot's of compression, and lots of top end noise. I was anal about it for a while, and tried different things to tone it down a bit, but no luck. Like you said, it runs great, so screw what other people think about the ticking.

I compare it to an old hot rod muscle car with a lot of compression work. If you ever have heard the motor up close with the hood up, its the same kind of thing.

Its been 3 years now, and my motor is still strong, so I don't worry about it anymore. Just get out there and ride.

I had the same sort of issue with a stage II build on a 2000 heritage springer. So loud you could not hear the exhaust. After changing the lifters adjusting the push rods the noise was still prevelent. A great mech at the local Harley dealer tracked it to worn rocker arm bushings. Replaced the bushings and it quieted down considerably. juat a thought

I got the same issue here. Right it hard and then you won't hear it. I usually get a lot of chatter sitting at lights!

08 117, pushing 200 psi in the cylinders. It had loud top end noise stock and even louder with all the mods. Even took my s&s lifters out for HD lifters. I have standard rockers no rollers. Very loud at high rpms, not so bad at idle

I have chased this same problem for a while after my WP install. I would make a horrible top end rattleing noise like the whole valve train was comming apart when I got into it a little bit. I pulled my travel limiters out of my lifters and still had the noise. It would change alittle bit with a jet change but not go away. I checked the vent tube and it was ok. I finally figgured out it is the rear tank mount. I disturbed it when I had my tank off doing the WP installation and the metal in the mount is now banging against the tank. I will be looking for a rear tankmount for the fix. Anybody have a good part number? This BDMC onership can sure humble you for not seeing the obvious.

Sell it or get rid of the Cheap TP Rockers. Get you a set of S&S roller rockers, Jim's Hydro-Solid lifer, adjust them to 10 flats use straight 50 Wt Mobil one Oil and you will be happy I am I have a 2006 Mastiff with lots of good shit on it and I can tell you it does not sound like a sewing machine.

Try using AMSOIL? It will not make all the noise disappear but I am sure it will quiet it down. It made a lot of difference in mine and I have also read here same result in other people's bikes... smoother less noisier motors.
