Losing primary fluid.

07 bulldog that is losing primary fluid. I'm venting primary fluid thru the transmission vent hose while riding. The only thing I can think of is that the primary to transmission o-ring has gone bad allowing primary fluid to pass. But thought I'd bring it up for discussion. Any thoughts? Could it be a venting issue in the primary? Before I tear it apart that is!

Sounds like transmission main seal on primary side is bad. Might want to inspect the bearings in transmission while in there. Seal can go bad if clutch hub nut loosens up and if bearings in transmission go bad.

That's what I thought but didn't think about the bearing. I'm tearing it down now. Appreciate the quick reply.
Yes stock bearings that Baker used often go at 10K-15K miles...sometimes sooner. Grab hold of the main shaft once you have clutch assembly out, and see if it has any play. If it does, the bearings are worn and need to be replaced. If no play, then it could just be a faulty seal.

Got it apart and it does have play. The trans fluid is seeping thru as we'll so I think we found the problem. Any recommendations on where to order the parts and any clutch brands? While I'm in there I might as well do that.

If your up to taking transmission out of your bike, you can send it to me and I'll do a complete rebuild on it. I'm still doing them with the better grade bearings, starting at $385.
Unless your close enough to me you can bring the bike to my shop...?

Also, inspect the end of that main shaft. Yours being an 07, if it was built in late 06, it's possible it has the old style main shaft in it. If the shaft has a small gap between threads and splines of main shaft, it's old and needs to be updated. If no gap, it's the newer style and you would just need the basic R&R.

It's the newer one so that's good. As far as the rebuild thanks but unless I find something crazy wrong when I replace the bearing it's good. Bike ran great except the leak. But I'll keep your number for when I need it. The trans is out and on the ground just need to find the bearing and gasket kits.

If your in the 10-15k range I would consider preventative maintenance. Go through the tranny replacing all the bearings, :2thumbs:

I totally agree with Earl and Andrew knows his shit, if the box is out and is sitting on the ground why not give it an early xmas present, 2 weeks and you back riding.

Yes it's not just one bearing needing to be replaced. If the gear set comes out, you replace all 9 ( 3 rollers and 6 needle ) along with the 7 retaining clips, seals, and gaskets.
The 3 roller bearings I replace with SKF (made n USA ) and the Needle are replaced with Koyo ( made in Germany )
They are the best bearing grade on the market. You get what you pay for with bearings. If you go cheap, they will not last more than 6-10k miles.
And if your planning to use a shop press to do the work ( NOT correct way), make sure you don't crack the case. That will set you back another $800.
