I was riding for a few hours.....when i stopped, i noticed the whole ignition unit came loose. It seems the bolt that holds it in came loose from the shaking. Should i locktight it?

When in doubt, loctite is your friend. Came loose once.......

Yes.
The bolt that mounts the coil cover to the frame is yor upper engine mount bolt. Check all the bolts and use red locktite on the upper bolt and torque to specs. Also if the bolt is gone you might want to check all engine mount bolts as they have been taking the vibration. If they will tighten, lossen them, clean and again torque to specs with specified loctite.

the problem is.....its hard to reach my fingers back there to turn the nut to tighten it. Do i have to take the whole chrome ignition plate (cover) off? I turned it to a degree....but i cant get it 100% tight.

I had that issue at one point. I couldn't get my fingers back in there. So I out a few washers on there so that the nut would tighten the unit before it got so far back in there.

I would take the ignition cover off to work on the switch. It isn't hard. Look to see if you can put a flat washer on the back of the switch where the threads are bad. You may be able to get a lock washer on there. Then you can tighten it with the good thread. Use some locktite or a lock nut. There are many solutions for you. You could use a deeper nut as one idea. If there's not much thread, you could cut new threads slightly smaller.

You could get a new one. I would take the nut off the back grab three or four washers and put them on the reinstall the nut. The washer keeps the nut from getting to the stripped threads.
