loose clutch shaft?

Was adjusting my clutch,and when I put the allen wrench in and the wrench on locknut,the shaft moves up,down,left,right,about 1/8" is this normal? Also this is the 3rd adj. in 150 miles, was going to check hub nut,but didn't which primary cover to remove,the hole thing?

all you need to remove is the outer cover on the left side of the bike (when sitting on it) to be able to check the clutch hub nut. but while you are in there, you may want to check out the throwout bearing, and pull out the clutch rod from the right side and look at the tip end and see if it has severe wear. the rod is case hardened and once that gets worn away, it will start to wear quickly. you will be able to tell by the different look/color of the tip.

Outside is all one piece except for the center cover(4 bolts) which you could pull and see if you can wiggle it from there. I would pull the entire side cover and get a good look at both sprockets,

if your clutch hub nut is tight also try this ,,pull your pipes and pull off the housing that clutch push rod threads into, 3 bolts, on the backside of this housing are 5 tiny screws that contain your ball and ramp assembly,,good chance they are loose causing the threaded part of pushrod that threads into ball and ramp to give you all the play you have,,half hour job,,regrease on reassemby and make sure ball n ramp are set correctly for tension on clutch cable, 3rd time in 150 miles sounds like clutch hub nut to me though

Thank all, it was the hub nut loose at 8,000 miles. Shifts better then ever,and no creeping at stops:flag:
