Looks like my EHC is taking a dump, I'm shocked!!

I rewired my bike, from scratch, as simple as it gets. I think I have maybe 10 wires running through the whole thing. No relays, 2 fuses and a circuit breaker. If you have relays I'm assuming you have the 12v HD style controls? If so it's a cake job. Let me know if you want details.
Yes I have those types of controls, but only one relay for the headlight, the rest is in the controller.
I have to use relays because BDM used such small wiring in most places and i don't want to carry that current through any switches

I replaced all BDM wires, I ripped out every single electrical part on the bike, tossed the speedo, etc. I started completely from scratch so as to not have anything BDM in the system. I have 2 turn signal switches on the bars and that's it. Starter is on a plunger, ignition on the key, high/low on a switch in the bucket, and just speedo and odo. 2 fuses behind the coil, breaker under the seat. Running signal/brake lights from a Badlands module.

I know you thought you would make a cute commit at my expense, and now you think it is funny?
Hey, it was pretty funny. If you're on this forum long enough, someone will have a good laugh at your expense. Don't get your panties in a wad!

Damn! Last time I said that was right after I joined the site to a guy named John Sachs. Little did I know he is one of the most knowledgable and respected members on BDB. Yep, I ate crow that day!

Don't worry! Be Happy! :cheers::eek::cheers:

In the past I've wired all of my customer's and my own bikes from scratch. You don't need any relays if you size the gauge wire to the load and fuse it correctly. Also, like Moespeed said, keep runs as short as possible, and switches as simple as possible. No problems. Good luck!

Should I need to do this, I will retain the original wiring which necessitates the employment of relays and that's OK with me.
I no longer find this work rewarding, more so a laborious burden devoid of any intellectual stimulation. (It's fucking boring and a lot of work) :D

Sounds like your burnt out from the problems. Maybe step back for a little while, return and slug it out until fixed correctly, then ride. Hopefully the riding part will fade the pain in the ass part away and you'll have some fun on the Dog again.

I did this type of thing for 25 years as a technician, that's why it's not fun. I actually have not spent a hour on this problem yet and it may just be a relay in the end.
As it stands now, it works perfect but I have a new relay coming because things don't fix themselves.
Thanks...

If your gona keep the low currant wiring some parts houses (NAPA) carry the micro parts but Radio Shack has the best selection, not all stores carry them but their on line catalog is Awesome if you know what you’re looking for:

Radio Shack:
RadioShack.com
Micro low currant relays
5VDC/1A SPDT Micro Relay - RadioShack.com
12VDC/125VAC 10A SPDT Mini Relay - RadioShack.com

I will use this type of relay. it's about 1 inch sq.
carries 30-40 amps. plus since i no longer will have an EHC or a ign. module I should have the room for several. They are SPDT so one could do double duty with the starter and headlight. (headlight out when starter is engaged).
It might also be better to run the lights on a separate circuit so I can run the engine without them.
All of this depends on the new headlight relay fixing the problem or not.

All that requires is a new three position ignition switch like my old harley had doesn't it. :D

BB,
Not trying to be a spoiler, but you may want to re-check the tech. specs. on both of those relays. I don't think that 55 to 65 "Max." Fahrenheit operational temps. will work in our applications. I think we're all just a tad warmer than that during operation. :D

dead (the bubble buster :zzdisappointed: ) :D:cheers:
