Back in '73 bought a new Sportster XLCH (kick start) for $2100 and was on a waiting list, times have changed.

My father used to tell me that Harley's were the only motorcycle you could ride it for years and resell what you paid for it. He was successful doing that for awhile he kept just kinda trading bikes for awhile. Not anymore.

Just read Harley is offering rebates to dealers to push 2016 stock out the door they have too much cause everyone just wants the new Milwaukee Eight engine. They are actually holding back delivery on 2017 models still.

I recently walked into a Harley (boutique) shop after not riding for many years and they all looked the same to me...EVERYTHING in there had the Harley stamp on it and was priced at triple what it should have been...

That's what happens! Harley fixed the factory sales numbers by forcing dealers to take way too many new bikes into the floor. I suppose they tried to keep stock market value up...
Now it is a payback, all the dealers are full of unsold 2016 bikes. They did that globally, even our little dealer in my hometown told me last summer that HD just informed they have sent more 2016 bikes to them... well, now they have them standing there...
Harley stock value went so much up and down last year I was sure there is a takeover going on...

I believe they can turn things around if they offered their own raked out big balls chopper...but all I see is bigger fairings with big assed sound systems. I guess they know their market, they sell a ton of those bikes and they're over 20k and up for mom and pop now that the kids are gone. It's not that I'm knocking it, I believe every one should ride at least once in their life, it's just...well.....never mind, I'm talking too much.

Chopper market is small niche and to look good they are expensive to built. You cant just cover everything with plastic...

I wouldn't worry about talking too much...

Besides... Folks get tired of the same old stories... Or maybe just mine...lol.
Fresh perspective is a good thing.

Well there are those that just strive on comfortable and god forbid it actually needs work.

The new Milwaukee Eight has a harmonic balancer which takes out 75% of the vibrations of the current twin Cam or EVO. They actually made one that took out 100% but people said it was still a Harley needed to be rougher. In my opinion smoothing out 75% is too much.

The Milwaukee eight also claims you'll never have to adjust the pushrods...ever.

But to get back track most people buy a Harley.. To be just that... Like their neighbor. Most of us big dog owners want to be just NOT like that. The sense of adventure is lost in me with a silky smooth motorcycle. It will be a long time before I'll consider one that's for sure.

The twin cams are smooth and they come with non adjustable pushrods. Or at least the 07 and 11 heritage did. Screaming eagle kits use the adjustable push rods. Don't know about the 17's
