I am looking to purchase a K9 or Chopper. Do the RSD have better balance and handling? I was looking at 2005 or newer with the RSD. I like the 250 tire better than the 300. Do the older models with LSD have balance issues? A lot of bikes for sale just would like to know what the better choice would be. I don't know anyone with a Big Dog. I used to own a 2001 Titan Phoenix ZRM 107 S&S. I was thinking of upgrading to 117 S&S Big Dog. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

If you prefer a 250 tire look for a 2011 K9 250. It has RSD, updated wiring, Harley style hand controls & primary which allows for ease of customizing.

I have ridden both RSD & LSD. At a standstill or slowly moving, you can feel the difference. Once you pick up speed, it's much better with LSD. You probably get used to it. The LSD riders can chime in. Given the choice, I like a balanced bike. Makes ridding with no hands easier!:)

I ride two bikes with LSD, one with RSD, and one with a shaft drive.
Honestly, they all ride fine ...
only difference I would say is , it is easier to change belt/chain on RSD

I ride them both...don't notice the difference in weight at all.....this machine is 900lbs. 25 lbs on the left vs right is irrelevant in my opinion.

In my opinion the biggest difference in the tire size. NOW that you can FEEL the difference between a 250 and 300 Rear. I can run both hard and zip around well, but I will say the 250 is easier to handle than the 300. That is a difference you can feel forget LSD vs RSD.

I'm a little confused by the replies. Interesting. My '04 Mastiff lsd doesn't handle all that well, but I'm used to it. If I'm cruising at highway speeds and take my hands off the bars, the bike IMMEDIATELY wants to fall over on it's left side. Always has. I always figured it was just the way it has to be due to all that weight hanging off the left side causing an unbalanced condition. Y'all are saying you don't notice this condition?

I don't usually run with both hands off one is always on the throttle so never noticed gotta get the cruisemate back on actually.

Well both my Big Dogs, 03 Chopper LSD and 08 K9 RSD go straight hands off! If the road is even that is. Roads do tend to lean towards the sides by desing. But by shifting my weight a bit to over come that no problem

Thanks for the replies. I am not expecting a great handling chopper. There are a lot of bikes for sale out there. i just want to make the better choice. If I was looking for performance and handling I'd go buy a Hayabusa.

I have been on a LHD Big Dog Chopper since 2004. Yes the torque does pull the bike to the left if you for some crazy reason decide to ride with no hands. I have a very simple cruise control on my throttle so yes I do go down the road with my left hand on the bars and rest my throttle hand on long trips. Then switch up then ride with both again. I have seen some close calls with people to relaxed on a bike. I believe you ride the bike. The RSD counter the torque. But honestly, the torque is so minimal you will not notice it unless for some strange reason you decide to ride with no hands! I love my 250 tire, I love my Chopper and today did one of the best upgrades I have ever done, with the Mikuni carb! When you throw enough power on the ground to power wheelie the front tire 1" through 2nd gear, that's impressive!
