I don't know Ray. I think we need closure to this. Rocky has an '03 Mastiff with the cork style oil cap. If she finds out she didn't get screwed, she may take offense to that.

No sense in argueing about this!!!

Our tanks no matter what model or year it is are all vented meaning the tank vents to the motor. So if the original poster of this thread is having issues with his plug then his motor isn't venting and he has other issues.

Ray, here is my issue. #1.My bike has a 2004 title. #2. 2004 bikes came with compression releases, mine had no compression releases but S&S motor was tapped and had plugs were in place. #3 after a very indepth conversation with BDM I learned using my VIN# my bike was built in Dec 2003 and titled in 2004. BDM say's in fact I do have a 2003. Coach is saying the oil res. cap is threaded to screw in, I'm curious if my bike was off in this department as well. From the other thread, it appears as though my cap is correct. That's all.

Okay, I don't remember what my 03 Mastiff had for an oil cap but it could just be that back then when they used Daytec, Rolling Thunder or BDM frames that each were different since most frame manufacturers supply the oil bag with the frame.

I looked for someone beating a dead horse, but couldn't find it. Can't both your caps be correct? We've already heard where other members have both caps as well. The real purpose of this post was if there was an option to cure a "cork style" oil cap that kept popping off. First, I would take it to the Harley Shop and see if they have a new one. If so, see if that works. If not, then like Ray said, check your vent line from your oil tank to your motor. Rocky needs a new cork style too because hers has become loose over time.

I believe several are right in this instance. In 2003, I believe BDM came out with two choppas! The choppa and the DT Choppa, I would think it's possible that there could have been the two type caps, as Ray ray stated above... :D

Okay, I believe we're kinda getting off track from the original thread. Hey DogMan, I recommend you take the scoot to a qualified Big Dog mechanic and have him thoroughly inspect it before you buy it. That way you can get any and all questions you may have about it answered face-to-face and make a well-informed decision to determine if this is the scoot you want to invest in. Just my :zz2cents: Good luck!
