HANDY FORMULAS
Pistons (cylinder) displacement = bore x bore x .7854 x stroke
Engine Displacement = piston displacement x number of cylinders
Example: for 80 cu. in. Big Dog Motor
Bore = 3.498”, Stroke = 4.25”, # of cylinders = 2
3.498 x 3.498 x .7854 x 4.25 = 40.8
40.8 x 2 = 81.6 cubic inches
Cubic Centimeters = cubic inches x 16.3871
Example: 81.6 cu. in. x 16.3871 = 1337.2 cubic centimeters (cc)
Compression Ratio = piston displacement + combustion chamber volume*
Combustion Chamber Volume
Example: for 80 cu. in. Big Dog engine
Piston Displacement = 40.8 x 16.3871 = 668.6 cc
Combustion Chamber Volume = 89 cc
Compression Ratio = 668.6 + 89 = 8.5 (to 1) i.e. 8.5:1
89

*Combustion Chamber Volume includes total area above piston at top dead center including area
created by the head gasket. Compression Ratio will vary with gasket thickness.

Horsepower = torque x RPM
5252
Example: Big Dog has estimated the 80 cu. in. motor at 82 ft-lbs of torque at 3600 rpm.
What is the horsepower? 82 x 3600 = 56.2
5252
Torque = horsepower x 5252
RPM
Example: Big Dog has estimated the 80 cu. in. motor at 69 horsepower at 5000 RPM.
What is the torque? Torque = 69 x 5252 = 72.5
5000

I know it has a SS 111 motor... any reference info.? I’ve tried searching... but not much info. It seems like a great motor 4” bore and stroke... super g , but EPA regs ended it.. hence the move to FI and the 117. Does that sound about right?
