LOL....if you saw the tooling to make them and how much just one set of that tooling costs, never mind the cost of machine that tooling has to go in to form them, you would not think $300 is "crazy".

LOL, whats that got to do with anything its still expensive.
.
I just asked a simple question about the tooling, but according to your comment your making it sound like you have to make the tooling. I would have thought the tooling existed from the previous MFG. And if its the same tooling used before, that cost of the tooling would have already been recovered along with the machine it goes into.
We were always charged the tooling cost's up front and the per piece rate was quoted on the number ordered. Future orders never had additional tooling charges.

That's why I asked the if the tooling existed, it has a lot to do with the cost.:whoop:

You are correct some of the tooling is existing.
I get a little touchy when I start getting hounded, not by you but on a couple of other threads, about costs and how were gouging everyone and ripping them off and it spilled over a little here.
For some reason though people just can't get it through their heads that none of this stuff is being made in the volume BD was making it in so it cost dramatically more to have it made now than then and in many cases the parts are still lower than when BD was in business and selling them. Not in all cases of course as some of the parts for the older bikes will never be made again so they become valuable.
Most would laugh at me and call me an idiot if they knew the hours I put in last year, and the incredibly small amount of money I made in return for that, all in the name of keeping BDs on the road. Even I question why the hell I am doing it sometimes when I get accused of being a thief and a gouger. But then I sit down at one of these sweet rides and start working on it or I take one out for a ride and I remember.

I've not had to order from you yet, but what you do is part of what made me decide to go ahead and buy my dog. Put my mind at ease if I needed parts you have the availability.

What happened to the member that had started making these covers out of aluminum?
I would have to say they found out just how difficult it is and how much it would cost to make them that way.
Some of these models you would not be able to install aluminum covers on as they just would not flex enough to get them into the tight places.

I'm glad it was enough to at least steer you to becoming part of the BD family.

I'm in no way perfect.
I have upset a few with poor performance at times but I do the best that I can and its all I can do.
And I have to add that its only by the good graces of Derek and Donna, Matt Moore, Jason Bateman and other suppliers that have given me a chance that I am able to do what I do for BD owners.

I understand theres a lot more to it than I know and wasnt saying anyone is getting ripped off. Was just saying in general $300+ for a little plastic is crazy..whether on a bike or a car etc.

Sorry Tyler didn't mean to imply that.
If it was just for the plastic I would tend to agree but it is for far more than just the plastic of course.
