I have a 2006 Big Dog K9. I have been having issues with my speedometer losing all power. Sometimes, RPM dial goes dead, but the MPH says working. I have also been having some issues with it stalling out while driving. Once while riding down the road at 60 mph and the other time while going into a slow turn. I am the second owner of this bike and the original owner replaced the EHC in 2008 (Part # 030171000010000 Carburated Engine).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My thoughts:
Ignition Module?
Update EHC to RIP conversion kit?

1. Say the battery posts are tight.
2. Say the bike starts right back up.
3. Say this difference is you have to wait awhile before it starts again.

1. We ruled this out, being it was tight, the battery is alright charge wise too. ~ Not it.
2. When it starts back up, say it's more EHC related.
3. But if it takes time to restart, we might check the crank/cam sensor.

OEM speedos are separate from the rpm/idiot lights. One can fail and not affect the other. If the actual speedo is pooping out, then it may be a loose connection inside the unit. Sometimes the vibration will eventually break the solder. Buy a Dakota Digital speedo. If the rpm ring fails, replace it. The ring isnt that difficult and the speedo is a simple plug/play install. Since this is the 2nd brain, I would recommend completely rewiring the whole bike once #2 brain poops out. I did and have been breakdown free for over 2 years now! As for the ignition wire, see if the key wiggles while in the actual ignition. If it does, replace it. While in there check the wires. Everyone gets an aftermarket ignition. Everything I wrote here I suffered through.
Good Luck.

Also check your Solenoid wire and other wires in the battery compartment and under your tank. I was having the same issue. My solenoid wire on the starter was loose. Started up again and I found several wires that were chafed. Once I cleaned those up, the stopped.
