Looking at a K9 - pull the trigger or ?

Folks,

I've always like the look of the K9. I've owned a number of Harleys but never a chopper.

I've found 2 or 3 decent low mile K9s for sale, around $15k. A little advice:

Good bike to ride a lot? A lot = 200-400 mile weekend cruises. Some local hops during the week.
Any issues I should look out for?
Any problems getting them fixed now that Big Dog is gone?
What about parts?
Would you buy a Big Dog now or go to something else like Harley?

I just picked up another big dog lastJuly. If you want a chopper, you won't be disappointed with a K9. My K9 has air ride and I'm good for long weekend rides. week to10 day trips I'll ride the streetglide.

BTW, I've done touring on Dynas. Never owned a touring yet.

So does the K9 come with air ride or did you add it?

What about reliability?

As much as I'd like my own fleet, chances are this bike would be my one & only. Any AZ riders here?

air ride was an option but you might be able to find a set-up. parts are from bigdogpartsking (member here bought all the leftover parts) good people to deal with, plus we have suppliers/vendors that can supply just about anything else.

:cheers:hello from oklahoma 'I had my K-9 for about 5 months an I just love the bike.i've only put 1000 miles on it since i got it .there alot of help here for parts and trouble shooting. just take time and read past threads' well worth it.:cheers:

I bought my K9 last spring and it is way more comfortable than my Softail Springer I had before and I put 51,000 miles oh the Harley. Seating position is awsome on the K9.

The K-9 is so comfortable I sold my Goldwing, seriously, I did. Used some of the money from the GW to upgrade a few items and now the K-9 goes everywhere.

You will never regret the K9. The feeling you get riding it, the stares you get, the thumbs up from Kids, Women, and Men. Any repairs you have to make are worth it. Upgrades are pretty easy, no prob getting parts or service (if you cant do it with the help of the forum). Pull the trigger and smile a big ol' shit eatin' grin.

I have an 09 k9, bought it in '12 with 4800 miles on it, now I'm close to 13K.

Folks on here say it is comfortable...I don't know if I'd go that far. This is not a dyna, or touring bike. This is a rough ride. I'm sure someone on here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the engine is hard-mounted to the frame. You really feel the vibration. That being said, I had a Vstar 1100 before this, and I would never go back. The looks, raw power, and the fact that my Harley buddies hate riding with me because I get all the compliments. One time, my pops (has a 06 mastiff with the 250 rear tire) and I were riding with a couple of friends who had road kings. We were at a gas station, and a lady came up and asked to take pictures of our bikes (the big dogs). She apologized to the Harley guys, and didn't want to take a picture of their bikes. :)

On the earlier models 06 and lower, Big dog had problems with the EHC (brain of the bike) reliability issues. They seemed to of gotten that hammered out by 07 or so. K9s were not made until 07, I believe they replaced the Chopper. So if your looking for a K9 that should not be an issue.

All of the crap above aside. I think it is a great bike, and have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

This is the wrong thread, but does anyone plan to go to Sturgis this year?

Rear foot pegs got modified for her heels, bought a two up seat, added a luggage rack, bought the big Kury bag for sissy bars, bought bluetooth headsets for our 3/4 helmets that we wear while touring and in cold weather, and added a USB port for charging of devices while on the run. None that will be noticed but enough to make it better suited bike for longer runs. If schedules allows we will ride the K-9 from Tampa to Sturgis and pass through Grand Canyon on our way back in August.

I was planning on buying an Ultra Classic for our touring but the thought of how many nights we can spend in nice hotels vs camping out of a Classic for the same $$$ made us re evaluate. The K-9 is actually a very comfortable bike to tour on with moderate speeds. On a Wing or a Classic one can do a few superslab stretches cruising at 80-90 for hours, that is not an option if you want to stay comfortable on a K-9, 60-70 works fine though...

first K9 were made in 06 most had tp rocker boxes

buy the k-9! If it ever stops snowing here in Maryland, I am back on mine. I have had a number of years of happy riding (twice to Sturgis). for me, I would not add an air ride---the bike rides just fine and is a lot more comfortable than the deuce I still own but gets little love from me when the sun is high.
