Have not ridden in 30 years ( used to ride a KZ750 a lifetime ago) but looking at buying a 2006 Mastiff with 6k miles on it from a Harley dealer friend. Since new to the Big Dog bikes anything I should look at or inquire about on the bike? Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays.

not necessarily a problem, but a snag could be if it has TP rocker boxes (4 bolt) instead of S&S rocker boxes (6 bolts) slight difference in geometry in the TP and has been known to wear stupid. (some have gone 60-70k without problems)

'06-early '07 had a recall on the voltage regulator (have it checked out)

clutch basket had a tendency to break but was recalled and replaced with a newer/better design (see if it was done).

see if the strut bolt recall was done. (changed to grade 8 due to snapping)

that should give you something to start with and make the dealer think that you know what the f**k you are talking about.

Thank You for the information. Would a Harley dealer know if these items were done? If not can I look at and tell? Great information. Thanks!!!

the first thing anybody can tell by looking at them. the last three you would need to go through a bdm dealer with the serial # to see if they have been done. (maybe check with amylulu @ stroker's dallas. she is a member here.)

Purchased my 06 Mastiff new and have 5000 miles on it.
No problems so far....replaced EHC with WirePlus just as a precaution :D

Mirage814, I like Pops have an 06 Mastiff and also have had 0 problems and I still have the original EHC. Follow the information already provided you when looking at any DOG and if you do get the scoot fire away here with any questions or problems and you will get help, great members here.

Have an 06 also with S&S boxes on it, rear box leaking a bit will fix soon. Put over 25000 miles on it in just over three years. Re-built the starter, tightened up and used red loctite on the clutch hub nut, other then that......good to go.

Thanks Guys

Thanks guys was back at the dealer today to get the vin number. I hopefully I can find out a bit more about this bike before we do the deal. There was an oil leak under the bike today that was not there a few weeks ago, and they said they were going to look at it, so we shall see. This is a great forum guys, thanks for all your help.

run your hand along the bottom edge of the primary case gently to see if the oil is coming from there. if it is coming from the seam, it is a fairly easy fix with a new gasket, some silicone, and a quart of primary fluid. (if that is what it is)
