Mr. Wright
Knows some things
Got to thinking, if they total it, Big Daddy just sold his to Wyopsycho up in Wyoming. Has the same paint job too. Maybe you can talk him out of it.
Lots of good info here.....Thanks.That bike is totaled. I got rear ended last year and it scratched a few parts. The guys at Big Dog were great in helping me get a list of what MSRP is to replace all the parts. Insurance company totaled it quick. I kept the bike ($3500 salvage value) and fixed the few things that were messed up, ignored the rest (like the bottom of my primary which was scratched). I kept the bike upright. Your real fight now will be with them trying to say what it's worth. Spend some time finding similar bikes in the same condition for a real value (cycle trader etc.). They said my K9 was worth 10k, by the time I was done arguing with the guy I got up to 15.5K, took 12k cash and kept the bike. Also, in CO, if you keep the bike the title doesn't get branded as salvage. Not sure in your state. After the adjuster leaves, go back to the shop (or wherever it's at) and pull all the parts you want if you're going to just release it to them. May not be worth keeping and trying to rebuild--up to you.
Also DO NOT make any statements to the insurance company about your health condition or that you're 'ok' etc. Do NOT sign any release waivers. Go see a doc, get a good checkup (my neck was jacked pretty good) and get treated. You do NOT have to get in a hurry for the injury portion of the claim. Also, call a good attorney. With the pics from that wreck, it'll be easy to make a case for your injuries. Some can take days/weeks to show up. Ask around your area and find a good lawyer. Mine helped with my value too. They all work on contingency, so they'll keep a percentage of what you recover for your injuries (30% is standard).
Glad you're ok! Another member on here got hit like that years ago and ended up under the moron's car!
Not sure where you are from, but I live in SC and took my bike to St. Louis to have my work done. Insurance company paid for my gas, the rental fee for trailer, hotel bill for overnight stay, and gas home. Then paid it all again when I went and picked up the bike from the shop. Granted I showed them on paper where that was cheaper than having it hauled or towed. Of course the insurance company wanted it done close to home, but in SC you have the right to choose your repair place of choice, either in state or out of state. You might want to remind them that these are "special bikes" with only so many repair shops left to do the work and have replacement parts.Mr. Wright I did ask about sending it out of state to fix. Pretty much was a "no". They would want it done in Ohio. I did have you in mind.
Lots of good info here.....Thanks.
If he doesn't total the bike I would be amazed and you'll have to do your own assessment on what you think it cost to repair and if it's in line with what he offers otherwise you can start listing the parts and the retail value. If he doesn't know his ass from his elbow he won't know the detail values on the parts. The adjuster was out on Sunday. (3 days ago) We went over the bike together. Told him pretty much the same thing as being custom and you cant just drop it off at a Harley dealer. He was concerned about the bolts being sheared off at the swing arm. I also made a point about the tranny linkage moving freely and the bike is stuck in gear. That can't be good. I don't know if they will pay for having the bike towed at their expense to a repair shop. I didn't talk to him about things like that yet. I do feel it is their responsability to do that. I gave him Shovelhead Kickers card and told him they have just about every part for these. So we will see. He never mentioned about the frame being possible bent. With the car driving over the swing arm who knows. I would think the insurance company would want you to take it in for some kind of estimate and go from there.
Good deal if you are satisfied. And I still can't believe you aren't sore as help. You must be in damn good shapeWell....your right. I received a settlement on the BD. I thought it was fair. So.....when I buy another I will post pics and info. And it wont be long.
