Well....woke up this morning feeling like I always do. Nothing new. So I guess I will be OK. So since the driver of the car was at fault.....won't her insurance company have to pay for the damage? Cause you know you just cant take it to a Harley dealer to have the repairs done. That is the problem I see. If I do it myself....we all know how expensive parts are. The rear fender was ripped off. Sheared the bolts right off the strut. Licence plate bracket broke off. The exhaust pipes were damage. The shifter lever moves freely. Bike is stuck in gear. Even if you pull in the clutch lever its still in gear. Dont know whats involved with that. Most likely not good. So how can you put a price on fixing it? And I don't know if they would let you do the work yourself.

WOW. Thats scary. You are very lucky, could have been a lot worse.

They will work with you on repairs usually, but they don't like to spend over~60% of the value of the bike.

They like to "total" them and buy you out, then sell as salvage.

They will often sell back to you as mentioned.

I would consider that if it were me. You could get the book value of bike, then do repairs yourself, or contract out what you cant do.

To walk away from that is nothing short of a miracle.
Glad to hear you’re ok. Maybe she dozed off, that could have been a lot worse.

Woke up today feeling like always. No new pain just old age. Claims adjuster came out and looked and took pictures. He said depending on the repairs and cost will depend on what they do. I could buy it back, I would have to get a salvage title though. I also could get it repaired if its cost effective. I also would have to find a shop that does custom work. I'm hesitate on that because of all the horror stories you here about shops not doing what they should. So now I wait to here back from him. My daughter took some pictures where the bike sits now. Cant really see much but the frame has some scrapes, the rider peg is bent up, the end of the front brake lever is ground down a bit, and the tranny is still locked in gear. I can only get one picture to upload. The rest are to big I am told.

That bike is totaled. I got rear ended last year and it scratched a few parts. The guys at Big Dog were great in helping me get a list of what MSRP is to replace all the parts. Insurance company totaled it quick. I kept the bike ($3500 salvage value) and fixed the few things that were messed up, ignored the rest (like the bottom of my primary which was scratched). I kept the bike upright. Your real fight now will be with them trying to say what it's worth. Spend some time finding similar bikes in the same condition for a real value (cycle trader etc.). They said my K9 was worth 10k, by the time I was done arguing with the guy I got up to 15.5K, took 12k cash and kept the bike. Also, in CO, if you keep the bike the title doesn't get branded as salvage. Not sure in your state. After the adjuster leaves, go back to the shop (or wherever it's at) and pull all the parts you want if you're going to just release it to them. May not be worth keeping and trying to rebuild--up to you.

Also DO NOT make any statements to the insurance company about your health condition or that you're 'ok' etc. Do NOT sign any release waivers. Go see a doc, get a good checkup (my neck was jacked pretty good) and get treated. You do NOT have to get in a hurry for the injury portion of the claim. Also, call a good attorney. With the pics from that wreck, it'll be easy to make a case for your injuries. Some can take days/weeks to show up. Ask around your area and find a good lawyer. Mine helped with my value too. They all work on contingency, so they'll keep a percentage of what you recover for your injuries (30% is standard).

Glad you're ok! Another member on here got hit like that years ago and ended up under the moron's car!

If the frame is scrapped up, I would think it would be totaled. You would have to tear it all the way down to re-power coat it. Not counting the other stuff.

Bike will be totaled unfortunately, talk to the insurance estimator see what they will charge to buy it back and then see if it's worth it.

Honestly, considering the car is on the bike the frame could be bent, but if it still starts and runs it might be worth buying back and you can farm out the parts to make your money back.

Now when your talking to your insurance guy, I hope you've kept all your reciepts for the add-ons otherwise it will just be NADA value.

I do have receipts for what I did. The Vance and Hines came with it. So no receipt. Where do they go to get the value? I went to NADA and its only worth 7900? And thats the high side. Low side is like 5800. Yet there selling for over 10,000+

So, since this is a first for me, can I take certain things off the bike? Now or after the adjuster shows up.
For me I was able to before adjuster got there as long as nothing is missing -- can't usually take battery and not put in a dead one etc.

Don't send it to Gateway in St. Louis,. Working with a guy right now that had his in there for like 8 months and screwed him on just about everything. I think he posted about it a while back. Forget his forum name.
You can send it to me if you want.
